Jenifer nodded. "Ye-yes. I am." She said shakily.
-
"He wants to see you. Lean over, so he can see your face."
-
Jenifer leaned over Chris. "What is it?" She asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
-
Chris just stared up at his friend, his eyes full of sadness.
They soon reached the hospital. Christopher was rushed into the leukemia/cancer unit. He had been there many times before. His mother had been notified of the incident. She met Jenifer in the waiting room. -
Jenifer sat in the waiting room. When Chris's mother came up to her.
(Can you voice his mom? I'm no good at it. xP) -
(Yup.)
"Oh my goodness is he alright? I rushed over here as soon as I got the call. What happened?" His mother was a mess, panicky and worried. -
"We were walking down the hall, and he started throwing up. Then throwing up blood and the collapsed."
-
then*
-
"Oh... Oh my god..." His mother placed a hand to her chest, the tears she had once held back spilling over the rims and running down her cheeks.
A nurse walked out into the room, a grave expression on her face, like that of the doctor who had given Christopher his diagnosis ten years earlier. "He's ready for you," she said in a hushed tone. Her voice was apologetic, mother-like. -
Jenifer nodded, and led Christopher's mother into the room they took him in.
-
Christopher lay on a large hospital bed, tubes and wires running in and out of his arm. A heart monitor beeped steadily, showing his solid heartbeat. His chest rose and fell slowly as the liquid, held in an IV pouch, dripped through the tubes and into his weak body. He looked up when he heard the door click open.
"Christopher... My baby boy..." his mother made her way to his side, resting her hand upon her son's. Against hers, his skin was a ghostly white. -
Jenifer quietly walked in after his mother. "Chrissy..." She muttered ever so quietly.
-
"Hi," he said to both of them. His voice was quiet as it had always been... But it contained a certain weak quality that neither of them had detected before.
A nurse walked in with the results from blood they had taken when he had first arrived at the facility. She handed his mother the papers and quickly left, shutting the door just before his mother broke down into sobs.
"Mom? It'll be okay..." Christopher whispered, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "I promise." -
Jenifer walked over to his bed, kneeling down beside him. "Chris.." She whispered, holding back some tears.
-
He looked over at Jenifer. "You shouldn't have to see me like this..."
