Chris nodded, reaching into the bag to pull out a jumbo sized peppermint patty. "Want to split it?"

She smiled a bit. "Sure."

He slowly unwrapped it and broke it in half. Noticing that the pieces were a bit unequal, he gave Jenifer the larger of the two.

"Thanks." Said Jenifer, nibbling a bit on it.

"No problem," he replied, taking a small bite of his half. He smiled at the taste. His mother was finishing the last page of the forms.

Jenifer finished her half and looked out of the window in the room.

The doctor came in within a few moments and took the completed forms. A nurse freed Christopher of the tubes that ran into his wrist and arm. After doing so, he was free to go. He still nibbled on his candy, savoring the cool mint flavor.

Jenifer watched the nurse leave, wanting to get out of this place.

Christopher shifted his weight, slowly positioning himself so his feet hung over the side of the bed. He pressed them against the floor and stood, steadying himself against the rail.

Jenifer turned to look at Chris. She hated seeing him like this. Weak.

"I'm good," he said quietly, regaining his central balance. His mother eyed him with concern.
"Alright." The three of them walked out towards their car at Christopher's pace, which was like that of a three legged turtle. -
Jenifer bit her lip, her friend was in pain, and she couldn't do anything about it. She hated it, she hated feeling useless.

They finally reached the car. His mother helped him in to the back seat, then got in the driver's side.

Jenifer hopped into the seat beside Chris.

Chris buckled his seatbelt and offered Jenkfer a weak smile. His mother waited for everyone to buckle in before driving off in the direction of their house.
"Would you like me to drop you off at school, Jenifer?" she asked, nearing the general vacinity of the high school. It was just a half a mile away from their house.
