"No way, I think that's awesome," Akira said, then paused for a second. "I remember my mom, she was a very nice woman." -

"Oh... Your mom... is she -" Maddy stopped. She could figure that out for herself. She didn't have to pain Akira by asking him. "I'm so sorry... That must be so hard. I know how you feel. My dad left us before I was born. Now he's some convict in Alabama." -

"No prob, and I'm sorry to hear that," Akira replied. "My dad, he's a mechanic and he's pretty cool. Just... kind of disappoints him that I'm not on any sports teams right now. I have an older brother but he only drops in when he needs money or to raid our frig." He chuckled. -
(totally understand. dishes suck. :l)
Maddy laughed. "That's cool, having a dad. I guess I'm kind of a wimp because I lack the toughness that a dad implies. I wouldn't worry about the sports teams. You're great, just the way you are." Maddy smiled and picked a blade of grass from the ground beside her, twirling it between her thumb and index finger. -

"Haha yeah, thanks. I wish I acted tougher, I mean I guess I just don't want to cause trouble. Last time I fought the jocks the principal came and suspended me. I just try to ignore them, but I feel like if I don't make them back off they never will." He sighed. -
Maddy met Akira's gaze. "I know exactly how you feel. That's exactly what they want though... For their victim's to get stuck in this state of confusion. God, I feel so horrible not stepping in... I'd stand no living chance against them." She pushed her hair from infront her face behind her ear.

"Yeah, but don't worry. I'm not going to let them harm you, or me." Akira said, feeling a sudden urge to fight back.

Maddy turned to Akira and smiled. "Me either. Starting today, I'll try to stand tall and be tougher. I shouldn't let them push me or you around. Let's stick together as much as possible in the halls, so they can't pick us out alone."

As she watched her older brother get closer to the strange girl from behind a tree, she got a little jealous. She had always been the center of Akira's life. She jumped out from behind her hiding spot and screamed "AKKIRRRAA!!!" -
Akira smiled and nodded. "That'd be great." He noticed it was getting darker out, which he was oblivious of until now. "Wow, it's getting late. Want me to walk you home?" He offered.

Akira turned around and noticed Jade coming toward them. "Oh, hi Jade. This is my friend Maddy, and this is my sister Jade." He greeted and introduced them. -

Maddy smiled and stood up. "Hi, Jade. Nice to meet you. I didn't know Akira had a little sister." -
Maddy smiled, for Akira's sake. "Hi Maddy." She didn't say much after that. She just kind of glared at her brother.
