Happily smiling, Akira couldn't really believe today's events. He held Maddy's hand and kissed her cheek. -
Maddy's heart felt like it was singing. She wondered if this was a dream. If it was, she'd never want to wake up. She smiled and leaned her head on Akira's shoulder. She'd never been whole, but she felt that Akira closed the gap her father had left.

Suddenly Akira's cell rang and it was his dad. He sounded upset about something. After a few seconds of Akira mainly listening he hung up and turned to Maddy. "Aw man, I'm sorry I have to go home my dad needs help. I'll text you tonight, kay." With that he kissed her and with a soft smile ran up to his house.

"Yeah." She watched him walk up to his house and then headed out to her home. Her phone rang and she picked up. "Honey, it's me. I need you to check the heating and ventilation system to make sure the company hasn't shut it off yet. Okay?"
"Yeah, Mom, I'm on it. See you when you get back." She closed her phone and trudged up the driveway, using the spare key under the WELCOME mat to get inside. -
As Akira went inside he saw no one was there until he went out the back door and saw his dad working on an old motorcycle. Smiling, which was odd, his dad motioned for him to come over and he handed him a rag. "You need help dad?" "Yeah, and I wanted to talk to you. I got a call from your school today."

Maddy went inside and checked the monitors. Sure enough, they were off, just as well as the electricity. Great... Mom forgot to pay the bills again She decided to not worry about it and headed up to her room to get a head start on her homework.
