Evan watched, narrowing his eyes a little. “ I dunno-“

"Trust me, you've just gotta build up to it," Connor said with a chuckle, smiling at Evan. "I'll break it down: step one, you put one foot on the end of the board like this," he said, shifting his foot to the back of the board. "Then, you push down until the other end is in the air."

“And then what? The board flies up and hits you in the face?” Evan said with a chuckle.

“No, you put your other foot on the board and slide it to the end, like this,” Connor spoke, chuckling softly. “It’s gonna feel weird at the beginning but it’s how you get that little hop.”

Evan furrowed his brows, watching Connor. “Wait- do it one more time-“

Connor nodded, repeating the motions. He kept the board up in the air with his left foot at the bottom, placing his right foot by his left and sliding it up to the other end of the board. “Just like that.”

Evan nodded, thinking for a moment. “Okay, let me try-“

Connor nodded, stepping off the board. “Okay, so start with the first step, the. do the slide,” he instructed, stepping back a little bit.”

Evan nodded, stepping on the board and sliding his right foot forward.

“Nice, nice,” Connor said, smiling. “Then, once you’ve done steps one and two, you do step three: jump.”

“What are steps one and two, again?” Evan said with a chuckle, glancing over.

“It’s what you just did, doofus,” Connor teased, chuckling softly. “So- step off the board real quick-“

“Uh- rude-“ Evan said with a chuckle, stepping off the board and moving away a step or two.

“I’m teasing, relax,” Connor said with a chuckle, moving to the board. “So, you step on the end of the board, making this bit go up,” he spoke, stepping his left foot down and making the right end go up, “then you slide your right foot from where your left one is to the right end,” he did the same motions, sliding his foot to the other end, “and then you jump.” He finished the trick, the board lifting off the ground for a moment or two.

Evan tried to absorb the information, nodding as he watched Connor explain it in detail. “Okay- and you’re sure I won’t die?” he asked, chuckling softly.
