Sam sighed dramatically, going back to her food. “What if I don’t find a wife?” Clay spoke, looking back over ay his parents. “What if I don’t want a wife??”
-
“What do you mean?” The queen said quickly, appalled. “That’s expected of you since you’re going to succeed your father.”
-
“I- I mean, do I- Do I really need to marry a g- anyone to become King?” Clay asked, his voice shaking a little. He wasn't out to his parents but he kept trying to send subtle hints, hoping they would understand what he meant without actually saying it.
-
His dad narrowed his eyes, about to say something but the queen cut him off. “Well, no, but you should to make alliances with other countries.”
-
Clay nodded, exhaling softly. “So, you- You wouldn’t be mad if, hypothetically, I said I didn’t want to marry a g- anyone? He asked hesitantly, watching his parents with a nervous look.
-
“N-“ His father started. “I would be upset!” His mother interjected. “It’s customary, we’ve never had an unmarried ruler since the kingdom begun-“
-
Clay froze up, exhaling shakily and nodding. “Right, yeah. Of course,” he spoke softly, crossing his arms over his chest. Sam pursed her lips awkwardly, watching as she took a sip of her tea. “I mean, it’s not really that big a deal, right? There’s plenty of other kingdoms who have just a king or just a queen-“
-
“Yes, but you’re not going be to be the first one here,” His mother said, giving Clay a stern look. “You’re going to marry someone and if you don’t choose someone at the ball your father and I will be choosing one for you.”
-
Clay exhaled shakily, nodding. “Yes, Mother,” he murmured, staring down at his food. Sam sighed softly, watching her brother for a minute before looking away.
-
“Good,” The queen said, taking a bite of her food.
(uhh should we ts maybe Clay goes to find George when he’s making breakfast?) -
(yeah, les do that u^u)
Clay snuck back down to the kitchen the next morning, hoping to see the head chef again. He peered inside to see the staff working on the breakfast for that morning, George off to the side working on cleaning dishes. He smiled a little and walked over, rolling up his sleeves and helping the brunette who looked too lost in his thoughts to notice him just yet. -
(yuhh u^u)
George mindlessly was doing the dishes from the night before, having been too tired and lazy to finish them all. “Oh, thank you,” he said with a soft grin when Clay took one of the plates to clean. It took him a few second before he jumped, dropping the plate he was cleaning in the sink. “Oh my God!” he exclaimed, looking at Clays its wide eyes. “Wha- what are you doing here?” -
Clay laughed softly, a warm smile on his face. “Figured I’d repay you for the sandwich last night by helping you- I’ve got time to kill before breakfast, anyways,” he said, watching George.
-
George stayed frozen in place, watching Clay for a moment, confused. “Why are you- y’know what, fine, if you really want to, you can clean the dishes while I start on breakfast.”
-
“Anything for the guy who makes the best sandwiches~” Clay said with a chuckle, winking at George before going back to washing dishes.
