“No, I- I’m okay,” Karl murmured, exhaling softly. “I’m so sorry, I just wanted to help-“

“I know, you’re good,” Nick said quietly, rubbing his eyes. “Go sit down, I’ll clean this up.”

“I- I can do it, it’s okay-“ Karl spoke nervously, crouching down a little to go and clean up the mess he made.

“No, not with your knee,” Nick said, shaking his head. “I got it, go sit down, okay?”

Karl exhaled shakily, nodding as he stood back up. He made his way back to the living room, sitting down. God, you’re suck a f---ing idiot, Karl, why’re you trying so hard?! You’re just making things worse- He rubbed his face with his hands, leaning back against the couch.

Nick grabbed a broom, sweeping up the pieces. He grabbed a dustpan, gathering them all up and throwing them away. “Do you need anything?”

Karl didn’t reply, stuck in his head and worried thoughts. You should’ve just left it alone, you’re just making it so much worse- Literally, why are you such a f---ing burden?! His mind screamed at him, his eyes tearing up.

“Woah, Karl, are you good?” Nick said, rushing around the island to the living room.

Karl exhaled shakily as he tried to shut out the racing thoughts, scratching the back of his right hand and leaving red marks on his skin.

“Karl, look at me,” Nick said, grabbing Karl’s hands and squeezing them tightly.

Karl looked up at Nick, tears beginning to roll down his face as he breathed shakily.

“Hey, hey, it’s not your fault the plate broke, it’s okay,” Nick said softly. “Take a breath.”

Karl squeezed his eyes shut as he clenched his hands into fists, hunching over. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry-“ He said shakily, tears, rolling down his face.

“It’s seriously okay, Karl,” Nick said, frowning. “No hurt no foul. It was an accident.”

“I’m just making things worse, I’m- I’m just a f---ing burden,” Karl muttered, exhaling shakily.
