Chris nodded even though Mason couldn’t see, taking five deep breaths to try and calm down.

Mason held the phone to his ear and drove with one hand. He got to Chris’s house after breaking quite a few speeding rules and rang the doorbell

Chris managed to make his way downstairs, rubbing his teary eyes as he opened the front door. He almost immediately flung himself onto Mason, exhaling shakily as he hugged onto him.

Mason blushed lightly. No, this is not the time to get flustered- He held him close, rubbing his back. ‘You’re okay,’ he said softly.

Chris let out a quiet sob, burying his face in the crook of Mason’s neck as he leaned into his touch.

Mason gently rubbed his back. ‘C’mon, let’s go sit down,’ he said softly, leading Chris to the living room and sitting him on the couch. He pulled him close. ‘Are the twins with you?’

“Yeah, they’re- they’re in their room,” Chris spoke, exhaling shakily as he sat down with Mason. “f---, I- I can’t just leave them here-“

‘Hey, you’re okay,’ Mason said softly, holding him close. ‘Is your mum with him?’

“Yeah, she- she called me and told m-me what happened…” Chris murmured, exhaling shakily as he rested his head on Mason’s shoulder.

‘Okay. What happened?’ Mason asked softly, trying to soothe him.

“He- He had a heart a-attack,” Chris spoke shakily, squeezing his eyes shut.

Mason held him tightly, raking his fingers through his hair. ‘Okay. Did your mum say she wanted you to come?’

“She- She told me to watch t-the twins, and that she’d- she’d let me know if she needed m-me to- to come up-“

‘So do that. Try to calm down, okay? Your father is in good hands,’ Mason said softly, rubbing his back.

Chris exhaled shakily, nodding as he curled closer to Mason.
