Mason pulled up to his driveway. 'See you later, okay? Text me.'

“Yeah, see you- Bye,” Chris said with a small smile, climbing out of the car.

Mason waved slightly as he left. He watched Chris walk to the front of the house and drove to his own.

Chris exhaled shakily, his hands trembling as he fumbled for his phone after dropping it. No, no, no- this cannot be happening- He picked it up and quickly called Mason, pacing the room in a panic as he waited for him to pick up.

Mason was chilling in bed when he got the phone call. He made sure the door was closed before answering. ‘Hey, dude.’

“Mason, my- my dad’s in the hospital-“ Chris spoke, his voice shaky. “I- I need a ride to- to the hospital or- or something-

‘Oh god- Okay, sure,’ Mason said, opening his window. ‘I-I’ll be there in 10 minutes, okay?’

“Okay- Please hurry,” Chris spoke in barely a whisper, tears beginning to roll down his cheeks.

‘I will.’ Mason climbed out of the window carefully and jumped down onto the grass, then ran to his car and backed out of the driveway. ‘I can stay on the phone with you the whole time, okay?’

“Yeah, please do-“ Chris spoke, his hands shaking as he walked over to his bed. He sat down, trying his hardest not to cry. “I-I’m so scared, I- I dunno what to do-“

‘Take 5 deep breaths,’ Mason said, driving to Chris’s house. ‘He’ll be okay, I promise.’
