Chris pursed his lips awkwardly, trying to come up with, literally anything, to say to Mason. “Uhm, anything else new in your life?” -

“Like what?” Chris asked, quickly regretting his words. “Sorry, sorry, I- I’m not trying to pry or anything, I just wanna catch up, y’know. I- I missed you, a lot,” he spoke quietly, wringing his hands together. -
‘I dunno, I moved out, live with my roommate, have a boyfriend..’ Mason thought aloud.

“O-Oh-“ Chris spoke quietly, trying so hard not to show his disappointment at his words. “That’s- That’s nice,” he added softly, nodding a little. “I just have this uh, not great apartment I’ve been stuck in.” -

‘What’s wrong with it?’ Mason asked, crossing his ankles under the table. -
“I mean, it’s dirt cheap so it’s not in great condition,” Chris said, chuckling awkwardly. “I’m trying to find a nicer place, and get a flatmate so rent isn’t as terrible for me to deal with, but I’ve just- had a lot of things to deal with so I haven’t really been able to do that.”

‘Fair enough,’ Mason nodded. If it had been someone else, a good friend maybe, he would’ve offered to have him move in to his apartment. But it was Chris.

“I really am sorry for how I ended things between us,” Chris murmured softly, staring at the table.
