“I’ve been okay,” Chris spoke quietly, crossing his arms over his chest. He exhaled, trying to collect his thoughts for a moment. “I- I’m so sorry, Mason,” he spoke, trying to keep his voice from shaking and seem like he’s trying to make Mason pity him. “I feel so f---ing terrible for how I let things end, for not standing up for you- For everything…”
-
Mason exhaled quietly, looking down. He wasn’t ready for face Chris all that. f---, I knew this was a bad idea… When Chris had broke up with him, he had nobody, and the bullying had gotten worse. He ran his fingers through his hair. ‘I- It’s fine,’ he muttered, but thought quite the opposite. His life had been hell until he moved out and went to college.
-
“No, it’s not f---ing fine- I f---ed up, you don’t have to sugar coat it,” Chris muttered, exhaling shakily. “I know it’s no excuse, but I- I was so scared of my dad- So scared he’d get mad or hurt me again if I tried to go back to you, and I didn’t want to drag you down with me…”
-
Mason clenched his jaw, looking back at Chris. ‘Chris, after that, my life was hell. My parents didn’t accept me, the kids at school didn’t accept me, my own family hated me. I had nobody to go to, because you left.’
-
“I know, I saw it all,” Chris spoke shakily, trying so hard not to start crying. He clenched his hands into fists, his nails digging into his palms. “I know it’s no excuse, and I should’ve stayed with you. I was a f---ing p---- , and I don’t deserve your forgiveness whatsoever,” he murmured, staring down at the table. “All I ask is you even consider possibly forgiving me one day, because leaving you to deal with all that hurt has been eating me alive. I’m so sorry, Mason…”
-
‘I just wish you’d done something, anything,’ Mason said. He looked down, inhaling through his nose. ‘This was a bad idea, I’m sorry,’ he said, turning around and standing up.
-
“No! Wait, please-“ Chris spoke quickly, standing and grabbing Mason’s hand. “Please, don’t go,” he whispered shakily, a few tears threatening to roll down his cheeks as he rubbed his eyes furiously. “I’ll do literally anything to make it up to you, I just want you to know how sorry I am…”
-
Mason watched him. He pulled his hand away, trying not to get too upset. He wanted to yell at Chris. He wanted to make him understand everything he had to go through. ‘Fine.’
-
Chris let go of Mason’s hand, a hopeful look on his face. “Thank you, Mason,” he spoke softly, a tiny, relieved smile appearing on his face.
-
Mason glared. He stuck his hands in his hoodie pockets. ‘So, you gonna order?’
-
“Yeah. Do you want anything?” Chris asked, moving to go order.
-
‘I’ll just have a fries,’ Mason said, sitting back down
-
Chris nodded, giving Mason a small smile before walking off. Well, that went smoother than I had expected- God, I don’t deserve this kindness from him though, do I? He thought with a sigh, going up and ordering their food.I really was such a fool to not stick with him, I was so scared of ruining my own life- I never really thought about what would happen to him. I thought this would protect him, I thought this was the right thing to do- I’m just an idiot, an idiot who’s still majorly in love with my ex boyfriend and ex best friend…
-
Mason sighed, looking at his phone. Olly had texted him. He quickly responded then set it down.
-
Chris came back a few moments later, exhaling softly. “How’s life been?” He asked softly, sitting back down across from Mason.
