Nick warily watched Karl for a moment to make sure that he was okay. “Isn’t it? It’s one of my favorite views from this area.”

"I think it's my new favorite too," Karl replied with a smile, looking over at Nick. "It's really pretty," he added, pausing as he was about to continue talking. No, I don't wanna seem weird- What if it happens again? What if- God, I don't even know how to go about this anymore...

“Yeah, it really is.” Nick glanced at Karl, raising an eyebrow in question, since it seemed like he had stopped from saying something.

"So, you uh, you liking the volunteering?" Karl asked, looking over at Nick with a smile.

“I am, yeah,” Nick said with a nod, glancing away again. “It’s super fun and the animals are great.”

"I'm glad you're enjoying it," Karl said with a smile, watching Nick for a moment before turning back, looking out at the beautiful scenery. No, I'm too much of a wimp. I can't risk ruining things just yet...

“Yeah, thanks for leading me through training and stuff too, it’s been pretty easy,” Nick said with a chuckle, studying the landscape.

"Of course," Karl said with a smile, watching Nick lovingly for a moment. He turned away, his face heating up. "I uhm, I really like this, y'know, hanging out with you," he said after a few moments of silence, glancing back at Nick.

Nick smiled, glancing back at Karl. “I do to. This has been fun.”

"We- We should hang out like this again, if- I mean only if you're free," Karl added with a small smile, running a hand through his hair.

Nick shrugged, chuckling. “I mean, I’m gonna be free at some point. When works for you?”

"Like I said before, I'm pretty much free whenever I'm not at work," Karl replied with an awkward chuckle, folding his hands in front of him.

“Alright,” Nick paused to think. “How about like, Thursday night, you could come over to my place and we could have like dinner and do an activity? Maybe you could teach me how to draw or something? Maybe you could bring Eloide too?”

"Sure, yeah, that- that sounds great!" Karl said, a small smile on his face. "I'll ask her if she's free."
