"It's not that bad, really-" Karl started to say when he took another step, his ankle rolling when he stepped on a root that stuck out. He cursed under his breath and steadied himself, squeezing his eyes shut. "Okay, maybe I'm in more pain than I thought," he muttered, shifting his weight to his uninjured foot.

Nick frowned, instinctively reaching out to help steady Karl, hand brushing against his arm. “Here, put your arm over my shoulder and I’ll help you to your car.”
