Chester stared at him for a moment, before slowly shaking his head. ‘I… I scared you?’
-
Maeve nodded. "Of course you did! You started yelling, and your fists were clenched and shaking as you were yelling. That's terrifying to witness from your own brother!"
-
Chester thought about that for a moment, looking down. ‘I..’ he mumbled, grip subconsciously tightening on her hand. He felt like such a failure, not only as a boyfriend, but as a big brother too. ‘I don’t know what to say, Maeve. I’m so, so sorry.’
-
"It's fine, you're fine now just... Don't. Ever again." Maeve looked up at him, noticing his expression.
-
‘I promise,’ Chester said quietly, pulling her into a hug. ‘If I do you can punch me. And it’s not fine, Maeve.’
-
"Oh, I will. Hard." Maeve chuckled softly. "No it's not. You need to get that phoenix part of you in control, got it?"
-
Chester smiled softly. ‘I’ll try,’ he said quietly. ‘Can you go get Oliver? Maybe he’ll have a solution.’
-
Maeve nodded before disappearing. She reappeared shortly, with Oliver in tow.
-
‘Hey! I can’t go one day without you guys having a problem!’ Oliver complained, stepping away from Maeve. ‘Somebody better be dying-‘
‘Well, what the heck’s gonna happen if this-‘ she pointed at Chester, ‘doesn’t get fixed! We need a solution and quick.’
‘Hang on there-‘ Chester said, holding his hands up. ‘You guys didn’t tell me about that part-‘
‘She’s over exaggerating,’ Oliver huffed. -
"Either way, hurry up with your careful little methods, and fix my brother!" Maeve clearly didn't like being called an over-exaggerator.
-
Oliver sighed. He was holding a medical book and flipped through it. ‘I’m trying, Maeve. Trust me, it’s my top priority. The only solutions I found were used in the past, like 50 years ago at least, and I refuse to use those kind of treatments.’
Chester looked over his shoulder at the book. ‘What else have you found?’ -
"Why not test those solutions?" Maeve asked on the same time before thinking. "Never mind, dumb question."
"Hardly anything. You underestimate how rare this is, both of you." -
Chester groaned, lulling his head on Maeve’s shoulder in frustration. ‘It’s getting worse, Oliver! You underestimate how much I need this fixed!’ He morphed into a half-dog, then a rat then a bird, his hair now all different shades of colours and wings poking from his shirt. He groaned in pain. ‘See?!’
-
Oliver's eyes widened. "Of course I see, but I can't just will some miracle to happen!" He sighed. "The only thing I've seen is one VERY EXPERIMENTAL test from 10 or so years ago, and the results were..." Oliver gave a 50/50 hand signal. "Not confidence boosting..."
-
Chester buried his face in his hands, sighing. ‘What was it? And what were the results?’
