Jayden's eyebrows raised. "And you're willing to go through with this?" He asked worriedly. He didn't want to force Chester to do otherwise, but he didn't want him to do this to himself. "You're willing to risk that?"
-
Chester nodded, smiling weakly. ‘Yeah, I do. Anything for you and Maeve. For the kingdom,’ he said quietly, relaxing in his arms slightly.
-
Jayd sighed. "You're either very brave or very stupid. Or both." He looked at Chester's face. "You're sure we can't just... Figure out how to control the phoenix? Or find another way."
-
*?
-
Chester shook his head, meeting his eyes. ‘Oliver hasn’t found anything else. We’re lucky there’s even a solution,’ he said quietly. ‘I’ve tried to control it, love. But it’s a part of me, all of my worst traits. If I can get my shifting under control I’ll be me again.’
-
Jayden sighed, thinking for a moment. "If you're sure you want to do it... Then you should. But if you end up getting those hallucinations, don't say I didn't warn you."
-
‘I’m sure Oliver would help with that,’ Chester said softly, kissing his forehead. ‘He’s a smart man, Jayden. If it does happen he’ll know a way to tone down the severity, I promise.’
-
What if he can't? Jayden plastered a weak smile despite his thoughts. "Ok." He mumbled.
-
Chester ran his fingers through his hair, kissing the top of his head. 'I love you, okay? This is for the best.'
-
"I know." He buried his face into Chester's shoulder. "I just don't want you to do this to yourself."
-
Chester smiled weakly, holding him tightly. ‘I know, love. I’ll check with Oliver later, okay? Let’s go get some breakfast.’
-
Jayden nodded. "Ok." He mumbled, voice muffled slightly.
-
Chester stood up and held a hand out to him, smiling softly. He was scared, but he couldn’t let Jayden know that.
-
Jayden took his hand, holding it tightly as he stood up. He didn't understand how Chester could act so calm over all of this, which only made him grow more worried, which then made him feel like it was all in his head, and that if Chester wasn't worried, why should he be?
-
Chester gently kissed his jaw, then lead him to the door. ‘What’d you read in my diary?’ He asked teasingly, trying to lighten the mood.
