Chester wrapped him in a tight hug. ‘Oh my god, Jayden, I’m so sorry,’ he said, burying his face in Jayden’s hair. ‘I shouldn’t have been so needy. I had no idea…’

Jayden hugged him back. “It’s ok, you couldn’t have known. Besides, I would’ve been upset in your place, too.”

Chester held him close, rubbing his back. ‘But if you’re dethroned, who gets it? Some distant cousin or something?’

Jayd sighed. “If I tell you, do you promise not to freak out too much?”

‘Why would I freak out?’ Chester murmured. ‘I can’t think of anybody- oh s---.’

Jayden gave a slow nod. "I'm guessing you know who it is..."

Chester held him close. ‘Please tell me it’s not Astrid.’

"I would, but unfortunately, it is."

Chester sighed. ‘God, I’m so sorry.’

Jayden kissed her cheek. "It's fine."

Chester shook his head. ‘It’s not. You said Astrid tried to make same sex marriages illegal! H-He could outlaw both of us!’ -
Jayd winced. “He won’t. He-he can’t do that.” He repeated that in his head. Astrid can’t do that. “Besides, you’re not a citizen of our kingdom. You can’t be arrested for that.”

Chester held him tighter. ‘But you could. And Astrid’s crazy, he’d probably find a way to arrest me anyway.’ He held Jayden’s face in his hands.

Jayden sighed. “You’re right.” He whispered, leaning into his touch. “But what’re we supposed to do about it?”

‘Don’t tell anyone,’ Chester murmured. ‘Do what you gotta do, ok? I’ll do everything in my power to make sure the board can’t do that. Maybe it’s against the law, or we can find some kind of loophole…’
