Jayd smiled back before turning around and leaving for his room.
-
Chester walked inside the library, shutting the doors behind him. He flew up to the top shelves - the only perk to being unable to change his form - and scanned the shelves for a law book.
-
Jayden walked into his room, trying to think about pranks he could do. He could have the chefs color his food, or switch out all the suits in his luggage to Jayd’s outfits-ones that could fit Chester- or, there was that one he wanted to do in Chester’s kingdom, the changing light candles.
-
Chester eventually settled with a heavy pile of law books and managed to carry them 10 metres to the closest armchair before they slipped out of his grasp and fell from 20 metres in the air. It made a very large thud that echoed throughout the library. ‘f---!’
-
The librarians head shot up, glaring at Chester. “Quiet, young man!” She said in a judging whisper.
-
Chester flew down, looking at the librarian. ‘Who are you?’ he asked, gathering up the books.
-
“Miss Kalt.” The librarian said narrowing her eyes. “Nice to meet you, sir.”
-
Chester blinked. ‘Do I have to address you as miss?’ he asked. This librarian kind of made him nervous. To be honest, most slightly older women did, but that wasn’t important. ‘And you’re one of Jayden’s servants, I assume?’
-
Miss Kalt looked puzzled by the first question. “Well, no, I suppose not. Yes, I am. Why do you ask?”
-
‘Just, er, wondering.’ Chester looked down at the pile of books he’d gathered. He assumed Miss Karl was the librarian, which seemed utterly bizarre to him. He didn’t have a librarian. ‘Do I have to sign a form to read these or something?’
-
“No, it’s mostly just in case you bring them out of the castle, which a couple servants do. That way we can keep track of who’s responsible for which book. As long as you don’t leave the building with it, and you don’t keep it for longer than a week, you should be fine.”
-
‘Right,’ Chester said, somewhat bewildered. He didn’t know there were rules for books with humans. ‘How strange. Well, we, thanks for your help, miss.’

-
Miss Kalt chuckled. “You’re very welcome. Now, don’t drop my books again or you’ll be in trouble.”
-
Chester blinked. ‘Er, in trouble?’ he asked slightly nervously. Humans were so strange.
