“Ah, the little pr stunt himself.” Astrid said with a smile so wide it was either fake, or he was a Ken doll. Jayd frowned, but didn’t say anything.
-
Chester smiled back, just as sarcastically. ‘Indeed.’ He was so tempted to say something just as horrible, maybe taunting him for getting kicked off the throne, but he remembered his promise to Jayden and held back.
For now.
‘You must be Astrid, yes?’ -
“In the flesh. Nice to meet you, Mr Jackson.” His words seemed to flow out with such ease, like he’d been planning on this day for ages. He paused before adding. “Nice hair.”
Jayden frowned more. “Astrid…” -
Ok, that was the last straw. Nobody insulted his hair, especially in the ginger mess it was in.
‘No, it’s fine, love,’ he said to Jayden. ‘He seems a fairly nice bloke. But I suppose your kingdom thought otherwise…’ -
Jayden’s eyes widened. “Chester, what did we say about-“
“How dare you!” Astrid snapped, practically glaring daggers into Chester. -
Chester raised his eyebrows, like he’d said something completely innocent. ‘Touchy topic?’ he asked, watching Astrid with slight satisfaction. ‘Apologies.’
-
Astrid looked like he was about to murder him before turning to Jayden. “And here I thought being with a man was bad enough, but this one?” He snapped. He said the word man like a normal person would say psychopath, or monster. Jayden glared.
“Don’t talk about him like that.” He shot back. -
‘At least I’m well respected among my citizens,’ Chester murmured into his glass as he took a sip of water.
-
Jayden looked at Chester. “Remember when we said we weren’t going to get into fights?” He mumbled.
“You good for nothing little-“ Jayden kicked Astrid under the table. Hard. -
‘He started it,’ Chester whispered back, before looking at Astrid. ‘Little what, hm?’
-
“Still! You promised you wouldn’t get into fights!”
Astrid glared. “You impertinent, insufferable brat!” It sounded like he would’ve said some… other things, had his own parents not have been there. -
Chester couldn’t let that slide. He glanced at Jayden apologetically, before turning back to Astrid. ‘Look who’s talking.’
-
Astrid looked like he had officially chosen his next punching bag. He looked like he was about to say something before Jayden interrupted him, standing up.
“Chester, we’re talking about this.” He glared at Astrid. “Alone.” -
Chester narrowed his eyes at Astrid. He hadn’t thought Jayden’s brother could be this much of a jerk. He gave Jayden’s parents a smile and and stood up. ‘Of course, love.’
-
Jayden walked over to an empty part of the kitchen, still holding Chester’s hand. “What was that?! I told you NOT to fight with him!”
