Chester glanced at Cleverly, who looked very pissed at him. ‘W-Well, I… um, I can’t assure you, it wasn’t for nothing.’

"What was it for?"

‘Personal reasons,’ Chester said.

"You gave up a military base and many of our homes for 'personal reasons'?"

‘Jesus Christ,’ Chester muttered, tightening the chain around his finger. He didn’t know if he’d be able to expose Caden without Jayden getting in trouble. He could risk his boyfriend getting dethroned or his own reputation tarnished, whether or not the kingdom believed he was a murderer. He looked at Cleverly for help.

Cleverly rolled his eyes, but stepped forward. "It was the best way to show Jaydens' board of directors that we'd keep our end of the treaty. Since our kingdom is much more advanced in terms of warfare, they were worried we'd break our word." He was exaggerating just how much more advanced they were to try and get the audience to shut up.

Chester nodded in agreement, fidgeting with the chain of his watch in that fast anxious way.

"This conference is now over, please exit to your left." Cleverly demanded. Everyone seemed pissed about that, but they left regardless, still screaming questions and shoving cameras into Chester's face.

Chester winced. When they were finally gone, and looked back at Cleverly, expecting him to be incredibly pissed with him. He had a right to, but Chester still cared about what he thought.

Cleverly looked incredibly annoyed. "That went well," he muttered dryly.

‘Yeah,’ Chester said weakly.

Cleverly sighed. "Well, at least we might have that whole murderer scandal behind us."

Chester stood up. ‘Hopefully.’
