"that's good." Jack said before closing his eye. He tried to lift his arm but of course his arm resisted the notion of awakening again
-
Mildred cocked her head at him, watching him for a moment.
-
"I'm going...... I'm going to sleep again..." Jack said before passing out. The maid looked towards Mildred. "You don't smell injured. Don't you clean up after yourself?" The maid said. She was reasonably assuming jack had smelled Mildred's blood and also assumed Mildred left drops of her blood in the library somehow.
-
Mildred paused, trying to think up a good lie. 'Uhm, well, I cut myself on a nail that was sticking out. Maybe I accidentally left some on the nail,' she said with a shrug, trying to make it sound as believable as possible. Though she wasn't sure why she was covering for the Bavlenca jerk.
-
"you should be more careful in a castle full of vampires." The maid said. The maid seemed very mad. She looked towards jack and noticed his head was lying straight down at an uncomfortable angle. She moved him to where his head was resting on his shoulder
-
'Sorry. I didn't realise they'd fly into a blood rage,' Mildred said. She rubbed the scar under her sleeve.
-
"you go into a castle full of vampires and expect them not to do something in the presence of blood. At least we know you don't think we're monsters, but we are." The maid said.
-
'W-Well, uh...' Mildred stuttered, trying to think of a way to justify her lie. 'Yeah, you've got a point there.'
-
"well, thank you for thinking so highly of us." The maid said. Jack's shoulders had started to rise and fall with his breath
-
'You're welcome, I guess,' Mildred said with a shrug. 'What's your name?'
-
"my name is jezebel and I have worked here since 600 B.C." the maid said shrewdly. She looked towards the library then back to Mildred
-
Mildred blinked. It took her a few moments to process this. '600 B.C?' she said weakly. 'You've worked here... since 600 B.C?'
-
"why yes. We are deathless creatures you know. I have watched over sir jack since his beginning squabbles hoping to be accepted by you humans and I'll let you know you don't fool me. You just want to exploit his good nature like the rest of them. At least you're not hurting him though." Jezebel said. She picked up the gauntlet on the throne table
-
'... Right..' Mildred said quietly, deciding it'd be best not to argue with the maid. 'To each their own, I guess. I'll let you know I have no such intentions, though,' she added.
-
"I don't trust you. My hope is that you just plan to use his good will to be pampered at this castle for the rest of your mortal life. I can understand that so I'll let you off if that is what you plan but if you think of hurting my prince I will send you to the darkest depths of hell." Jezebel threatened. Her eyes burned with an unknown power as she stared Mildred down.
