"you think I'm handsome enough to pull it off?" Jack joked around. He was surprisingly lively
-
‘Pfft, yeah. Probably,’ Mildred said.
-
"I'll put that in the royal record." Jack said with a laugh as they approached a large set of doors.
-
Mildred giggled, following. ‘Go ahead.’
-
Two guards opened the door and the cool nighttime air hit Jack's face. It made him happier. He always liked the fresh air.
-
Mildred untied her hair so her neck would stay warm. She was used to the cold, but right now wasn’t wearing as many layers as she usually did.
-
Jack breathed in the fresh air then stepped out of the castle. There were a lot of stairs but it was manageable. From the top of the stairs you could see past the maze like streets of the vampire kingdom to the surrounding forest.
-
Mildred marvelled at the view for a few moments, then quickly caught up to Jack.
-
"the streets are fresh today." Jack said as he looked through the streets. Despite it's Gothic style the streets tried their best to look welcoming. There were many small stores with small window displays. Vampires walked around on their daily tasks for the most part until they caught glimpses of jack. When they saw the prince they froze in confusion
-
‘The architecture is cool,’ Mildred said, falling into step beside him. ‘I didn’t get to take a good look at it when I was, er, trying to escape.’
-
"i can't imagine you'd take in much scenery while running for your life." Jack said. He waved to a citizen but that only seemed to freak them out more
-
Mildred was very amused at the civilian’s reaction, barely suppressing a giggle as she turned her attention back to Jack. ‘Yeah. Shame, too, because the buildings here much prettier than the buildings back at the village.’
-
"thank you. Our architects worked hard on making the streets a maze while also making it homey so we didn't feel like we were living in a prison." Jack said
-
‘It’s like something straight out of a dark fantasy book,’ Mildred said.
-
"they were inspired by the book Dracula. Sometimes we like to lean into tropes. We find it fun." Jack said. A man quickly flipped a closed sign on his store as the two walked past and flipped it back once they were away.
