Natsuki nodded again, leaning into Nikolai slightly.
She looked at the ground, hearing Xiao yell and swear. -
Nikolai nodded, walking away slowly, motioning for Nat to follow.
-
Natsuki followed him, not looking at him.
She kept her eyes on the ground, fiddling with her hands. -
Nikolai grabbed her hand, walking down the street, looking behind them to make sure that the foster agents didn’t see them and connect the dots. “Do you want to go to my house?” He asked. On one hand he knew his house was NOT safe for them, but on the other hand, he didn’t known anywhere else to go.
-
Natsuki shrugged, still not looking at him. She felt that somehow this was her fault, though wasn't quite sure how, if it was, she had caused it.
She didn't mind where they went, so long as the foster agents or even the police didn't find them. -
Nikolai saw Nats face, and stopped, turning to her.
“Listen to me.” He said softly. “None of this is your fault. “
They kept walking until they reached his house, and he opened the door quietly to make sure his parents didn’t hear. -
Natsuki gave a weak nod and forced a smile, then stepped inside when he opened the door. She was careful not to make too much noise as she glanced around the small shed-like house.
-
Nikolai tried to think of where Nat could sleep. She could sleep on the couch, but wouldn’t that mean she would be closer to his mom? He didn’t want her to be near his mom at all. She could sleep in his room, but it was so small that he would probably have to sleep on the couch, and if he did his mom would surely assume something was up.
“Where do you want to sleep for the night?” He whispered. -
Natsuki shrugged, glancing off to a door that went to the side, the one that Nik's father hadn't come out of. She would've asked about his room, but her phone was on 9% and, based on the events that had happened before, she didn't want to waste the battery.
-
Nikolai guessed she was saying that she wanted to sleep in his room.
“Yeah, that’s my room.” He said. “You can sleep there if you want.” He glanced at her phone. “And I have a phone charger in there too.” -
Natsuki gave a small smile, unable to manage anything more. She stepped forward and opened the door to reveal a tiny room. There was a queen-sized bed and about a metre or less of room on each side.
It was painfully small, and Nat frowned at it in confusion. Why was it so tiny? -
Nikolai scratched the back of his head. “It’s really small, I know. I can sleep on the couch since it’s so small.” He grabbed the phone charger and plugged it in the only outlet in the room. “There, you can plug your phone in.”
-
Natsuki nodded gratefully and plugged her phone into the outlet, still wondering how Nik lived in such a small house. Ming took up a lot of room, but surely a teenager and two adults took up more room that two teenagers and a kid?
She sat on the bed, glancing back to Nik, her face creased into an almost-frown. -
Nikolai looked at Nat, and her face was a somewhat frown. “I-it- did I do something wrong?” He asked, fidgeting with his hands.
-
Natsuki shook her head, and opened her mouth to say something, but of course nothing came out. She closed it again and gestured her hand in a waving motion around the room.
