“Same English class.” Nikolai said excitedly.
“And the same PE class. Wanna come with me to English?” -
Nat grabbed her bag and stuffed the books she needed for the day inside, then slung it over her shoulder. She gave an eager nod to Nik, grinning.
-
They both walked to the class, which was just a few doors down. They sat down in their seats, Nat right behind him.
-
Nat pulled out her copy of an old Shakespeare book and her English notebook and a pen.
'Turn to Chapter 5 and read until Chapter 7,' the teacher droned, his voice deep and sleepy. -
Nikolai nodded. English was his favorite subject, and he had already finished the reading they were supposed to do that day. He turned around to see Nay writing, and waited til she was done
-
Nat enjoyed English, but Shakespeare was so painfully boring she hadn't bothered to read ahead. She wrote down notes as she read, and when she looked up she noticed Nik looking at her.
-
“I can summarize the reading for you.” He said softly. “Y’know, since Sheakspere is confusing to understand.
-
Natsuki gave a small smile and nodded. Any help at all she would appreciate. She wondered why the books hadn't been adapted into an easy-to-read version, Shakespeare's books probably weren't aimed towards teenagers.
-
“So in this scene Hamlet is seeing his dead father, who is telling him that his brother-Hamlets uncle-killed him. This is bad news because Hamlets mom is marrying him. Does that make sense?” He asked, looking at her.
-
Natsuki nodded slowly, listening to Nik intently. She wrote down some notes as he spoke, looking up when he paused.
-
“One cool fact about Hamlet is that the Lion King movie was based off of it.” Nikolai said.
(Finally, my theaterness is helpful) -
(Haha.
These are cool facts, tho)
Nat raised her eyebrows at that, and scribbled that in her notes as well. It probably wasn't that useful to the test, but cool to know nonetheless. She smiled and nodded for him to continue. -
“Well, Hamlet wants to seek his revenge on his uncle for killing his father, and challenged him to a duel. That isn’t for a few more pages though.”
-
Natsuki scribbled that into her notes and turned a page, narrowing her eyes at it. She tried skimming it but she couldn't understand half the words used, and ended up looking back to Nikolai for him to continue.
-
“Well Hamlet challenges his uncle to a duel, and they prepare for the duel, but what Hamlet doesn’t know is that his uncle is having Hamlets cousin duel for him, and that he’s dipping the sword the cousin was using in poison… and that’s the end of the reading for today.”
