Anne chuckled. 'She didn't need my help,' she said, and sat back down.

"Oh, ok" Lily paused. "What do you have for dinner?"

'We're having pasta, I think.'

Lily smiled. She never tried pasta before but it sounded nice.

Anne smiled back.

About an hour later Mariella called the two girls down for dinner.

(bump)

Anne stood up and walked towards the door.

Lily followed her a nervous smile on her face.

Anne looked behind her at Lily, walking downstairs. 'Are you alright? You seem nervous.'

"I'm fine" she hesitated. "Well, I'm just worried incase your mother brings up the subject of where I live again"

'You'll be fine, so long as I'm with you,' Anne said. 'Mother is rarely so rude.'

Lily nodded following Anne to the dining room.

Anne sat down at the dining table.

Lily sat in the seat opposite her and looked down at her shiny-white plate, running her finger round the edges of it.
