'Then I'll ask,' Anne said. 'You can't spend the rest of your life homeless, poor, and without an education.'
-
"How about you teach me?" Lily asked. "That way it saves your Father wasting his wages on someone who struggles to write even the simplest of words.
-
'Maybe,' Anne said, smiling at the idea.
-
Lily gave a small smile back at Anne, but said nothing. She lay back on the warm sand, relaxing in the heat of the sun.
-
Anne lay back down too, closing her eyes as the warm sun kissed her pale cheeks.
-
Lily rolled onto her side so she was facing Anne. "We should probably head back up, before your Mother gets worried" she suggested, her eyes squinting as the sun travelled to her face.
-
'You're right!' Anne said, immediately sitting up. 'Oh, I hope she's not worried sick. Come on!' She started running slowly, making sure Lily was following her before speeding up.
-
Lily jogged along side Anne, jealous that her mother was alive, and they had a bond. She'd never even met her parents. She slapped herself. "Stop thinking about sad stuff, you've got Anne now"
-
Her mother was sitting on the blanket, reading a book.
'Oh, good,' she said when she saw Anne and Lily come forward. 'Have you girls had fun?' -
Lily nodded. "It was great, thank you!" she tried not to let her voice go wobbly. Whether she was successful or not, she had no idea.
-
Marilla smiled. 'That's good to hear. Come, we've some food left. I've bought some a dress for each of you that I think would be good for the summer,' she said as Anne sat down next to her.
-
(Mariella)
"Thank you, that's simply splendid of you!" Lily exclaimed trying her best to not speak in her usual cockney infront of Mariella. -
(sorry 😂)
'No problem,' Mariella replied. 'You can try them on later.'
Anne opened her can of peaches, taking another spoonful though trying to be ladylike in front of her mother. -
Lily smiled biting into a small pastry. "Delicious!" she grinned.
-
'I told you,' Anne said, not rudely, as she continued eating her canned peaches.
