Lily ran her fingers down the soft material. 'Its magical, I love it. Thank you" she responded carefully taking the nightgown from Anne.

Anne beamed at that. She grabbed her own nightgown from her wardrobe - almost the same as the one she'd given Lily - and said, 'You can change into it now, if you want.'

Lily nodded and bashfully went over to the corner of the room where she carefully took of her dress and pulled on the nightgown. It was a perfect fit. "What do you think?" She asked Anne doing a little twirl.

'I love it!' Anne said, who had slipped into her own and was sitting on her bed. 'It looks so pretty on you!'

Lily beamed at the compliment. "Yours looks stunning too" she smiled sitting down next to Anne.

Anne glanced at herself in the mirror bashfully, then looked back to Lily. 'Well...' she stuttered, 'Thank you, I suppose.'

"You suppose?" Lily questioned Anne's answer raising one eyebrow.

'Yes,' Anne said, sitting cross legged on her bed. 'I suppose.'

Lily sighed. "What do you mean by that?"

'It means what it means and nothing else,' Anne said, leaning against her pillow. 'Do you know what "suppose" means?'
She didn't say in rudely or accusingly. -
Lily shrugged. "Yes but" she let out an exasperated sigh turning away from Anne.

'But what?' she asked, leaning forward to try and look Lily in the eye.

Lily said nothing closing her eyes. But what? She didn't know how to reply, so she turned over, her back to Anne and tried to sleep.

Anne pursed her lips and decided against saying anything more. She pulled the pins and ribbon out of her hair and set them on her bedside table, then lay on her side, her back to Lily, and tried to fall asleep.
