"How do you break the contract?" she asked.

"First there's a sort of ritual," Adrian said. "And then, after four weeks of complete agony, the contract is gone."

"Agony? Like painful agony?" she said,

He nodded. "Physically and mentally. I had to be strapped down."

"That sounds painful." she said with a grimace.

"It's worth it, in the end," Adrian said knowingly.

"I'm sure it is." she said.

Adrian looked at her. "So do you want to do it?"

Jewel knew she had to accept the fact that she couldn't bring Max back to life. "Sure." she said.

"I can't take a sure," Adrian said. "I need a yes. The ritual can't be done without your full and entire consent."

Jewel rolled her eyes. "Fine, yes." she said.

Adrian gave her a nod. "I'll go tell the others." And he left the room.

Jewel went back to laying down.

A few minutes later Adrian was back in Jewel's room. "Half an hour," he said.

"Half an hour? What do you mean by that?" she asked.
