Drakestorm nuzzled Rainpaw. "Congratulations!" He purred.

"Thanks, Dad!" Rainpaw said, rubbing against him.
Fernstar cleared her throat. "Since Bluefly is now a mother-" cats purred appreciatively and murmured their congratulations to Drakestorm and Bluefly. "-I will mentor her apprentice, Whistlepaw. And since Drakestorm has been injured recently, his apprentice will be trained by my deputy, Bearclaw until he is well. That will be all." -
He nodded, and went back to the nursery to deliver the news to his mate. "Rainkit is Rainpaw now!" He purred. "And Fernstar and Bearclaw are training our apprentices for the time being, seeing as we currently can't."

"That's wonderful!" Bluefly said, nuzzling Rainpaw. "You're a big girl now, you'll be sleeping in the apprentice's den. Lynxkit, Stillkit, Moonkit, and Cottonkit should be joining you any day now!"
Rainpaw purred and rubbed against Bluefly, before bounding off to say hello to her new friends. The other apprentices greeted her with curiosity and warmth. Cottonkit was dry now, but she looked depressed. Sightfall was completely oblivious to her daughter's sadness because she couldn't see. -
Drakestorm noticed this, though, and nudged Sightfall. "Cottonkit looks a bit sad. Why don't you let her play with her siblings?" He asked, before turning to his mate, and nuzzling Bluefly.

Sightfall's ears drooped. "Yes, I suppose she's old enough to play outside..."
Cottonkit mewed her thanks to Drakestorm and padded outside, her tail flicking from side to side. Why did she have to blind and cooped up in the nursery all the time? It wasn't fair. -
He mewed to Bluefly, "I'm going to go see how Rainpaw's getting on, okay?"

"Okay," Bluefly said warmly, wrapping her tail around her tiny kits. Willowbreeze licked her large belly, thinking longingly of her mate. He was in InfernoClan and had probably moved on.

He walked over to the apprentice's den, glad to see that his adoptive son was getting on well. "Making any friends?" Drakestorm asked Rainpaw.

Rainpaw nodded. "Yeah! I've already made friends with Sugarpaw and Applepaw, and Redpaw! It's so cool to be an apprentice," she said brightly.

He purred. "That's great. Did your mentor say when you're going to get to check out the territory?"

"Yeah! Nightpelt's gonna take me tomorrow!" Rainpaw said, bouncing up and down.

Drakestorm nodded. "That's great!"

Rainpaw rubbed against Drakestorm. "Thank you for looking after me."
