Kate flopped back down, staring at the ceiling. Kiri was starting to nod off a little.

Myriad watched them silently

Kiri's head drooped, finally succumbing to sleep. Kate tentatively wrapped the blanket around him, before sitting next to Myriad. "It's nice to have two friends."

Myriad blinked at her and then nodded a little, starting to groom his wings

"I wonder what happens next," Kate wondered, hugging her legs.

"Thats up to you" he said quietly

"It is?" Kate said, looking at Myriad and leaning her head against her knees. "It feels like I don't control anything. Not my future or what happens to me. Just myself."

"Well" he started "you control me, so theres that, i guess

"I don't control you," Kate said. "Not really. And if I could, I wouldn't want to."

Myriad tilted his head at her in confusion "i dont understanf

"I don't want to "control" you," Kate said. "I just want to be your friend."

Myriad just continued staring at her "why not?

"Because it feels...wrong," Kate said with a frown.

Myriad frowned a little "i dont understand. Any other human would be estatic to have something like me under their control

"Well, I'm not "any other human". Or I'd probably have a job, a family, and a house instead of...this," Kate said, spreading her arms wide to demonstrate.
