When they stopped, Imogen got out of the car. She wondered if there was a lot of blood, if it was fake. She'd tried very tasty fake blood in her lifetime.
-
(ew)
Oliver knelt down and filled a dropper with blood. "Get this to forensics," Oliver said. He looked around. As he'd suspected, not a single animal imprint. -
(Hey, it's good! There's cocoa powder in it.)
"This wasn't an animal's doing," Imogen said, kneeling down and looking at the wounds. -
"Yes and no. Most of these wounds are an animal's doing, but that wasn't the cause of her death."
He glanced at her head, where her hair cleverly concealed a bullet hole. "That was." -
Imogen raised her eyebrows. "So, a large dog, or something, trained to kill, maybe," she said. "Or at least incapacitate. And then they were shot."
-
"Or the other way around," Oliver said. "But you are most likely right. A dog mauled her, a large one, but she was shot right in the head."
-
Imogen stood up. "Now we have two murders to investigate," she said, "but they're most likely commited by the same person."
-
"Most likely," Oliver agreed. "But I don't want to rule out the possibility of separate murderers just yet."
-
"Neither do I," Imogen said. "Who should we question next?"
-
"Lesley," Oliver said. "And Hamilton."
-
"Where'll they be?" Imogen asked, walking back to the car.
-
"Hamilton is at the police station. Lesley is under careful guard and is speaking to a therapist," Oliver said. "You choose."
-
"Let's talk to Lesley," Imogen said.
-
"Smart choice," Oliver said. He stepped into the car and watched as Hannah held the hand of the ranking officer, waving goodbye with her other hand.
-
Imogen waved at Hannah. "Why was she ever a suspect?" she sked curiously.
