"When I met her," the maid said. "She only stayed for the night."
-
"Which night?" Imogen asked.
-
"The night of Mr. Marlen's death," the maid said. "After that, I never saw her again."
-
"Did you only see her that night?" Imogen asked.
(Why am I doing all of the interrogating?) -
(Because I'm the maid, and Oliver did most of the investigating earlier)
"Yes," the maid said. "Is that all?" -
Imogen pursed her lips. "Yes," she said. The stubborn maid. she knew she wasn't going to get anything else out of her.
-
Oliver stepped out of the room, scribbling on his notepad. "What did you think of her?" he said.
-
"Well, she did say that she wouldn't incriminate any or the Marlen family or their staff," Imogen said. "Which means she's hiding something."
-
"Either that, or she has blind loyalty to them," Oliver suggested.
-
"Agreed," Imogen said.
-
Oliver sighed. "So, Nina is still missing. That's very, very suspicious."
-
"Well, we need to find her," Imogen said.
-
"I agree. But that, in itself, is a whole case. We'll have to put this case aside for the moment, and that will leave plenty of time to hide more evidence," Oliver said.
-
"Or what it the murderer was also a kidnapper?" Imogen asked. "No, I'm probably making this something more than it is."
-
"My theory is that she finds the body, or sees the murderer in action and runs, if she's innocent. If not, she's fleeing the scene of the crime," Oliver said.
