Oliver popped open a small hidden compartment and pulled out a lollipop. "For example, like this. Would you like it?"
-
"That's not a distraction," Imogen said, taking it.
-
"Yes it is," Oliver said, taking one for himself.
-
"How so?" she asked as she began to suck on it. She made a slight face. Blue raspberry. She wasn't a fan of that flavor.
-
Oliver smirked at her sour expression and waved his green apple lollipop tauntingly at her, childishly.
-
"Don't like those either," Imogen said. "And keep your eyes on the road. You know I don't like blue raspberry."
-
"Oh fine," Oliver said, popping the candy into his mouth.
-
Imogen smiled and raised her eyebrowns, shaking her head.
-
He pulled into the driveway of the house that Lesley was in. He got out of the car and opened the door for Imogen.
-
Imogen got out of the car, and then walked through the door. She looked around at the place as she walked in.
-
It was a neat homy sort of place, and by the door were some officers. Oliver explained the situation and showed him some papers and identification, and they let them continue. There, sitting a seat directly across from a pretty Asian woman, was Mrs. Marlen, who was crying.
-
Imogen looked at the therapist, and then at Mrs. Marlen. She sat across from the dead man's wife. "Mrs. Marlen," she said gently, "Would you mind if we asked you some questions?" She tried sounding the least bit formal possible. So that they wouldn't be seen as the law, but as people.
-
The therapist pursed her lips and stood up. "I'll get you all something to eat," she said, dismissing herself.
Mrs. Marlen sniffed. "A-Alright."
Oliver knew she'd been through a lot, but he couldn't help disliking her. Where had she been when Hannah was all alone in that house? -
"Can you tell me where you've been for the last . . . three days?" Imogen asked. She didn't remember when he had been killed, so this was a god enough estimate.
-
"I spent one day being questioned by the police," she said tearily. "And I spent the last two days in my therapist's house."
