Lavinia snorted. "I killed double what you did, AND washed them back to the city, in front of everyone. I think they might me more pissed at me. Anywho, I'd say it is about time we became the most invisible bird of all time and get out of here. Also, I'm Lavinia." As soon as she said this, she shifted into a pigeon, and looked pointedly at the girl.

"I'm Jenna," Jenna said, and Shifted into a sparrow. "And if the Head Hunter hadn't decided that he'd like to fight me, yeah, I would've killed more. But you've never seen him fight."

Lavinia began flying towards the forest. "I think I could've taken him.Snow leopards are excellent fighters.Why didn't you shift right away and just disappear?"

"Because I was making a plan. I've lived for a while without using my magic so that I didn't get caught, so that wasn't the first solution that crossed my mind," Jenna said, following her. "And anyway, that wouldn't be very exciting."

Lavinia laughed slightly. "I suppose you are right, it wouldn't have been.But if I hadn't been there, you would've been killed." Lavinia shifted into a blue bird as they neared the forest. "Let's fly into the forest a ways before shifting back, just to make sure we are safe from hunters and humans.And animals that like to eat birds."

"I already said 'thank you,'" Jenna said. She adjusted her wings to follow Lavinia.

"I know you did." Lavinia said as she began diving closer to the treetops, scanning the grounds for signs of hunters.

"So why did you help me?" Jenna asked.

"I like pissing people off and by helping you get away, I pissed off those hunters." Lavinia landed in a tall tree. "And because you are like me. How can I let them kill you for being magic when I myself am magic?"

Jenna gave a little laugh. "The thing is, I was breaking the law as soon as I was born. Except I don't think that I have any ancestors that were magical, but before the king came into power, you don't know Magic was abundant then. I just know that I was born with magic, and I can't get rid of it. Honestly I don't know if I want to or not."

Lavinia Shifted to human . "I get that. I was born with magic too.I've had the blue in my hair from the very beginning. My parents were close to the king, and supported his anti-magic law.Until I was born.They didn't want me executed, so they told everyone I was a stillborn and kept me hidden for years.They tried many things, but nothing gets rid of magic if you are born with it." Lavinia paused for a moment, then said quietly, "There are rumors of a place. A place where all magic wielders can be safe.A place where we would be respected, even needed if our powers are rare."

"Do you know where?" Jenna asked. she longed for a place where she's be able to use her magic freely and not be punished for simply being.

Lavinia shook her head. "No, sadly. I've been searching, but my guess is it is really far away. I was about to begin a journey north towards and possibly over the mountains before I saw you."

(Oh, I forgot to mention that she's already shifted back into a human.)
