"Very good," Aislet hissed. "What is seen in the middle of March and April but can't be seen at the beginning or end of either month?"
(I swear, if you're looking these up, I have been doing all this hard work for literally nothing) -
(I'm not xD.)
Gaynor bit her lip. She hadn't heard this one before. Well, most of these kinds of riddles were based on how they're spelled, so she mentally spelled them in her head. The only letters they had in common were 'a' and 'r'. But 'a' wasn't directly in the middle of them like 'r' was. 'a' was right before the middle every time, so it had to be 'i'.
"i," she said. -
(You're so good at them D:)
"Wrong," Aislet hissed, her jaws opening wide.
"R!" James shouted. Aislet slither back, looking disappointed.
"Correct," she said glumly. "I have trees, but no leaves, I have shoes, but no socks, I have bread, but no butter. What am I?" -
(Man, I switched up the letters.)
Lonely was Gaynor's initial thought. She couldn't believe she had switched the letters around at the last second. She couldn't think of what this one was. She didn't know this one. It just didn't make sense. "Lonely," she guessed, stating her thought, knowing she was going to get it wrong. -
"Wrong," Aislet hissed, amused. "Guess again. Here's a hint: it ends with an "n"."
-
"I'm starting to wonder why there's so many riddles," Gaynor mumbled. "It was just one at a time before." She shook her head. "Unknown. That ends with an 'n', doesn't it? And it's true."
-
"Wrong!" Aislet hissed, delighted now. "One last chance."
James looked up from careful thought. "It is...a pattern."
Aislet let out an enraged shriek and disappeared, leaving a rippling portal behind her. -
"I was still right," Gaynor said. "But I can't believe, that I switched up the letters! At the very last moment!"
-
"In a manner of speaking, yes, you were," James said. "All we must do is step through the portal and we will reach the entrance."
-
"Finally," Gaynor said, exasperated. "I don't think I'll be able to go back here again. Aislet seems to have developed quite a grudge."
-
"You have proved to be quite the competition for her. She does not like this," James replied.
(Alright, gotta go) -
(ok. Bye.)
"I dread to think of what happened to whomever else has come this way that didn't anger her," Gaynor said. -
"Those that cannot answer her riddles are generally eaten or killed," he said nonchalantly. "Shall we move on?"
-
"Ok, then," Gaynor said. "Yes."
-
James stepped through a rippling patch of air and disappeared.
