After Rhonen left, Nevaeh decided to lay down in the hammock, to nap if possible. She was still sleepy, and how that was possible, she didn't exactly know. "..Aniel, come snuggle with me," She whined, knowing that her little pup probably didn't want to lay still when it wasn't close to bed time. Still, she was starting to loose her warmth finally, and snuggling with him was something she needed to practice, anyways.
-
Aniel looked at her and hurried over. "Okay, momma." The boy told her as he carefully climbed in beside her, trying not to rock the hammock too much as he did so. Once he was settled and snuggled into her side, he let a soft sigh, staring off as if thinking about something.
Rhonen struggled to reason with his father about going to get Nevaeh's friends, the older wolf seeming even more intimidating than usual. "My answer is no, boy, now stop trying to convince me otherwise."
"But, Father, they'll die without her help. They've relied on her to survive for so long that they're probably struggling to live right now. And if they die, Nevaeh and her friend's absences will be more noticeable. Someone just might come looking for them, you know." Rhonen argued, flinching when his father turned to glare at him.
"My answer is still no. The only reason Nevaeh is here is because she was bitten, and in time I expect Jule to turn his mate as well. The others have no purpose here other than to stir up more problems." The Alpha growled in annoyance, then had an idea. "Actually, they can come out here."
"Really?! Than--"
"Hush, boy, I'm not finished. On one condition: You prove to me you've become a man worthy of taking my place and leading this pack. You do that, they can stay with us."
"..Whatever it takes, Father. I won't let you down." The young wolf huffed with determination and went back to finishing dinner for his family. -
Nevaeh stroked his cheek with the back of her hand as she waited for Rhonen to return. He was such a good baby, and she was so happy to get to be his mother.
Meanwhile, Ella and Molly were absolutely struggling to take care of Cora. As her due date drew closer, the town doctor had ordered her confined to bed as per issues earlier in the pregnancy. Cora was one of those women that like being up, cleaning, cooking, doing something to help, and so making her stay in her room was a constant struggle. Ella and Molly managed it, though, but their patience was growing thin. They had learned to care for Cora, but watching her all the time meant no time for them to go out and hunt, and no hunting meant no blood. They could have gone during the night, or course, walked to the village across the hills easily enough, but after three children had gone missing from their beds at night, the town folk had started posting watch. Of course, they blamed it on the only evil thing they knew- Werewolves.
Ella and Molly were the town ladies. And ladies don't murder, at least, not under the public eye. -
Aniel smiled softly, relaxing into her touch and slowly closing his eyes. The pup was content with his new family, even when his adoptive parents got into fights. They were still there, doing what they could to take care of him.
His nose twitched as he sat up rather quickly, eyes wide open and staring at the entrance to the shelter with anticipation. He hurried over to greet his adoptive father, more so focused on the cooked fish than the man himself. "Papa..! Hungry!" He whined, circling the older with his nose in the air.
Rhonen chuckled lightly, giving one of the smaller ones to eat. "I love you, too, Aniel." He teased, petting the boy's head and going over to his mate. "Here, Nevaeh. I might be a bit bland, but at least it's better for the body that way." -
Nevaeh didn't bother to get up when Rhonen came in. She was almost flipped over when Aniel scrambled out of the bed, but she laughed it off, sitting up to take her fish. She sat it in her lap, choosing to eat it there. "Mhm. Thank you, Rhonen. I love you." She picked off some of the meet, popping it into her mouth, loving the texture and faint taste.
"I'm going out to hunt.. If anyone says anything, I'll just.. Tell them I'm looking for Lynna," Ella started, and then realized how bad that sounded. -
"You're welcome, Nev. I love you, too." Rhonen smiled, sitting on the ground beside the hammock as he began to eat. He was more than just happy to be with his family, watching as Aniel sat down beside him and leaned into his side. The boy ate as if he hadn't seen food for days, causing his adoptive father to laugh lightly. "Careful, Aniel. Don't choke."
Jule had finally found the ingredients he'd needed, some of which he'd had to sneak out of the outermost city, and was heading back towards camp. He knew that going into the city was a 'no', so he always stayed as close to the edge as possible. It wasn't hard to fit in with humans. After all, werewolves took on human forms for a reason. They were harmless really, unlike some humanoids from the past. He shivered a bit at the idea and picked up his pace. -
Nevaeh laughed at how quickly Aniel ate, picking her own fish apart bit my bit. She wondered what it would be like in a few months, when they had other pups to take care of and watch over. As she swallowed another bite of fish, she asked, "So, how did talking with your father go..?" She didn't mind that Aniel would hear their conversation. After all, he was her son.
When Ella finally did get to go out, she had to be careful. But, she brought back a few rabbits- Live, of course. She and Molly took what they needed from them, though it was hardly enough. Then they skinned and cooked some of the meat, putting some of it in paper wrap to sell to the butcher. What they cooked when to Cora, who complained that it was a bit under done- But, she ate it anyways. -
"He said.." Rhonen sighed lightly, realizing how difficult it might actually be to win his father's favor. "No. Unless I can prove myself to be a worthy wolf to take over as the Alpha of our pack. If I can do that, I'll be able to make decisions like these on my own. But I have no clue what he'll ask of me.." The young wolf shifted to rest his head in Nevaeh's lap from where she sat in the hammock, seeking her comfort.
"Papa can do it." Aniel chirped, moving to snuggle up with the next Alpha while finishing his meal. The brunette gently stroked the boy's hair, smiling with gratitude from the encouragement.
Jule watched Rayne work with the ingredients, crushing and mashing them together into some kind of paste. Most medicine was like that, a paste or liquid. He hummed, settling beside his still resting mate and making sure her leg was all right. -
Nevaeh ran her fingers through his hair, sighing at what he had said. "Oh.. That's.. I guess I'll just have to make due for right now. I need to go see them soon, regardless, and I guess I'll just have to get in and out without anyone but them seeing me. It's alright, though. I can wait," She assured him, leaning back, wishing that there was another way to get what she wanted. "So.. When's the next full moon? You never did tell me the exact date." Nevaeh had decided that it was best to change the subject for now.
Lynna woke up, glad to find that Jule was right next to her. She winced a bit when he touched her leg, pulling his hand up to hold in her own. "I want.. I don't know why this pregnancy when wrong. It's not fair." -
"I'm sure he'll get started on tests as soon as possible. A few days at least." Rhonen hummed in thought, closing his eyes at the feeling of Nevaeh's fingers through his hair. He could feel Aniel move and struggle to climb into the hammock with her. He nuzzled into his mate's thigh, wrapping his arms around her waist. "The next full moon... Should be a few weeks before then. Are you wondering about your change? I think you'll do just fine."
Jule recoiled when she winced, having not meant to cause her discomfort, but gently squeezed her hand, entwining their fingers. "I know.. But things happen. We can't always get what we want, or bad things could happen. Corruption even.." -
(Are we dropping Olan and Kalen?)
"Mhm," She sighed, wishing he hadn't mentioned the tests at all. If he failed, it wouldn't only be bad for her, but for him. "Rho, if.. If there's any risk of you getting hurt, don't.. Don't get hurt, please," She said, knowing that she couldn't ask him not to do the things his father asked. She looked down at Aniel, smiling slightly. "I think.. I'll leave to see them tomorrow, then. I'll go alone. There's no need for anyone else to come. It would only cause trouble."
"It's just.. Not fair," She repeated, sighing softly. Lynna leaned over, resting her head in his lap, watching Rayne go about her task. -
(No, I'm just an idiot that's still trying to find the right words.. ;u;
I'll pull it up in a bit and try to write something good enough)
"I'll be okay. I know one thing I'll have to do is fight with him. I have to prove that I'm stronger than him. As for anything else, I'm not sure. He might have me make difficult decisions in his place as well. The alpha is more than just the strongest of the pack, he is their life line. It's the alphas job to decide what to do when something happens. The pack looks up to us." He explained to his mate, staring up at her and reaching for her hand. "Just watch out for more of your traps. And yell for me if you need me, I'll always hear."
"I know it is.." He soothed, lightly stroking the woman's hair while they watched Rayne work. All he hoped was that his mate would be all right after everything. She was more important than anything right now. -
(Sorry all these replies took so long..)
"Oh.. Will you have to kill him?" Nevaeh wasn't sure how all of this worked. Clearly, much of what she knew about werewolves wasn't true at all, and she couldn't depend on anything she had learned to answer any of her questions. "I will. Actually, do you think I could take Aniel with me? I'd like for him to meet them.. And, anyways, it'll always work as a cover story as to why I'm coming back without one of your heads. Transporting an orphan who's parents were killed by rouge wolves.." When, in truth, Aniel's parents had been pretty much killed by humans. Ironic.
She closed her eyes again, almost falling back to sleep, but she wasn't able to push the thought of how cruel the world was out of her head. -
"Oh no, not at all. I just need to prove I'm strong and make him submit to me. I need to prove I'm superior, and any wounds we receive will heal within days or less depending on the moon's cycle." Rhonen told her, shifting to look up at her when she made the suggestion to take Aniel with her. In all honesty, that was the last thing he wanted to happen. The boy couldn't change at will yet, but still, he could easily be discovered if said or did the wrong thing. And cover story didn't subside his thoughts and worries. "Just.. Be as careful as possible. I don't want to lose both of you."
Jule shifted to lie beside her, resting his own eyes as he did so. He draped an arm over his mate, nuzzling into her shoulder. Rayne glanced at the two then went back to her work. -
"Oh. Okay," She dismissed the subject, not liking the idea of Rhonen getting hurt in the slightest. She ran a finger through Aniel's hair, nodding. "I know. We'll be careful. I have some friends about a mile or two out of the woods. We can stay the day with them, get some food and some horses, and.. And I shouldn't be gone for more than a week," She assured him, kissing his cheek. "I love you, Rho. Really," Nevaeh yawned to punctuate her sentence.
