He frowned out of boredom. "My life is none of importance. My name however is David, which is the only thing I will tell you." He could tell her more, but what fun would that be. "Along with that, I am not a...mass murderer." He glanced out at the window and saw the rain was pelting down harder, "hm..."
-
"Well, that's a relief, David. Then again, it sounds like something a mass murderer would say," she replied, giving him a jokingly suspicious, scrutinizing look, her hand positioned over her lips in a thoughtful way. Of course, she didn't actually trust him, but giving off that impression would help until the storm ended. She glanced down at the sandwich, knowing she should probably eat some of it, but his gaze was enough to make her lose her appetite for... well, eternity, nevermind the taxidermy on the walls surrounding them. "I'm Elaine, by the way."
-
He nodded lightly and leaned forward, placing his chin on his hands, trying to relax just a bit. "And why Elaine are you all the way up this mountain?" he said lightly, his voice sounding soft for a few seconds and he soon cleared his throat. "Not many peope even come up here."
-
"A friend of mine asked me to visit for the next few days but she lives a few hours away by train, and the train station is on the other side of the mountain. I'm a pretty good cyclist, so it was no problem to ride over, but then that storm broke out. I dressed for cold weather, and I almost always wear rain boots, but I wasn't prepared for something like this. Now I'm here." She leaned back on the chair and slipped one leg over the other, then adjusted her shirt.
-
He blinked lightly and frowned. "So that's what that noise is. A train..." he muttered something about how trains were just an idea, then shook his head. "I'm sorry, but it seems I am inturupting your question time." he glaned at her. "You can continue."
-
"Alright. Can I ask who you inherited this house from? It seems ancient, and you don't look a day over twenty-five." She glanced behind him at the chair he was sitting in. There was no way he'd picked that up from a vintage shop. She assumed that the rest of the mansion was furnished in the same way.
-
"My father and mother." That wasn't a lie, he did, but he wasn't going to tell her how or why he would have it at such and early way. He frowned lightly and started tapping his fingers lightly on his silk pants. "Any other questions."
-
"How old are you? Unless that's too personal." She was running out of questions, but Elaine was determined to find something else out. She didn't want to spend the night in the house of a total stranger. Besides, he was starting to seem more and more like a complicated puzzle for her to solve.
-
He glanced at her. "I'm 21." Which wasn't a really big lie...to a point. he was older than his actual true age he was so many years ago. He smirked a bit. "And how old are you? You barely look out of high school." He felt like teasing her. What could he say, she seemed like someone who could take a joke.
-
"I lost track after the first few centuries, but I think I'm 547?" she joked. Getting more comfortable, she pulled her legs up into the chair and leaned forward, grabbing the plate. Even though the shirt went fairly high, it did fall out a bit as she leaned, creating a dark but clear view of part of her upper chest. Oblivious, she sat back up. "But yeah, I guess you could say that. I'm 20, was put into school a year late. You don't seem like you're 21. Most twentysomething guys that I know are nothing like you."
-
He looked a bit surprised at her first answer, but soon frowned slightly at her a bit. The joke was funny yes, but he partially found it funny. He watched her move, but glanced away quickly seeing her shirt rise up a bit, but he cleared his throat lightly. "What do you mean by different than most twenty one years old?" His eyes flickered a bit, not very noticeable if you focused.
-
"Well..." Her voice started out with the same playful tone, then quickly became serious. "Most guys know what wifi is. Most guys would hate to live in a place like this, surrounded by taxidermy. Most guys would... oh, it's snowing now."
Her gaze had shifted from David to the large window behind him. The ominous weather behind her host painted a very frightening picture, especially with his slightly unpleasant expression. And she'd finally gotten over the decorations enough to regain her appetite. -
He shrugged lightly, trying to come up with an answer that wouldn't make his sound even older than he was. "Maybe I like my solitude." His eyes narrowed a bit. "Considering this house has been pasted down from generation to generation in my family, along with the taxidermy." He blinked and turned to see the snow falling down hard. "Hm...seems you'll be here longer than expected."
-
She tried not to look as disappointed as she was, not wanting to seem rude. "That isn't a problem, is it?" Elaine was still extremely suspicious towards her host, and was a little hesitant to be stuck in the house with him for... a few days, probably. She wasn't sure what triggered the bad attitude from earlier, but she was in no way eager to set it off again.
-
He sighed. "Not a problem." He got up slowly and glanced at her. "It's getting late. I'm going to go get some sleep." He started walking out of the room and looked at her. "Do you need to be led to your room or can you find it?" As he waited for her answer, he gave her a once over. She was different than most of the people who got lost up here.
