Lovino's legs, like the rest of him, were shaking. But he nodded stubbornly. "Course I can, idiot," he muttered, but he only managed a few steps after letting go of Maira before he let out a small groan, his legs giving out. Unfortunately, despite being able to breath again, the encounter had made him quite weak.
-
Antonio, of course, hadn't believed the Italian who was trying to walk on such shaky legs. He was still next to him with his hands held out, and just as he'd expected, he ended up having to catch Lovino under the shoulders from behind. "I'll carry you," he decided, not letting Lovino fight before he lifted him into his arms, carrying him like a bride. He started towards Lovino's cabin, trying not to mind anyone else.
-
Lovino didn't even have the energy to argue, merely going limp in his arms and nuzzling feebly into his neck, closing his eyes. He was so tired, his throat and chest ached, and his entire body felt as though it had turned to ice. He didn't move, trusting Antonio to take care of him.
-
Antonio walked quickly toward the cabin. He wished he could drop Maira off first, but Lovino was cold and he couldn't walk around with him everywhere. When he made it to the cabin, he pushed open the door, and walked towards the bed to set Lovino down gently.
-
Lovino barely responded, curling slightly into the sheets, his clothes dampening them. "Grazie," he breathed, eyes fluttering slightly as he hovered on the verge of sleep. He longed to get rid of his wet clothes and climb under the blankets, but the drowsiness was overwhelming.
-
Antonio shut the door, letting Maira linger outside of it. "I'm going to get you new clothes really quick, I'll help you change." He went to the dresser, finding an outfit for him, and then going back to the bed. "Lovino, can you sit up maybe? It's okay if you can't."
-
Lovino struggled to get his sluggish body to react, but forced himself to sit up. "Y-Yeah," he replied softly, moving to tug his soaked shirt over his head. He wanted so badly to tell him how much it hurt, to be held and comforted untilmhe drifted off, but he stayed quiet, knowing he'd been enough of a burden already.
-
Once Lovino was sitting up and his shirt was off, Antonio slipped on the new one. It was nice and dry, and he quickly helped Lovi out of his pants. This was a little harder, but soon, he'd gotten his new pants on as well. "How are you? Drier?"
-
Lovino nodded silently, fearing that if he opened his mouth he might say something he'd regret and make Antonio feel guilty again. The warm clothes did feel nice though, and Lovino was pleased to find that he had stopped shaking.
-
"Good," Antonio hummed, sitting on the edge of the bed. "I'm going to go put Maira away, and then I'll be back." He stood, and kissed Lovino's forehead.
-
Lovino looked down, murmuring a soft 'okay' in response. As soon as he left the cabin, Lovino curled up again, letting the fear and pain and panic pour out of him in stifled sobs.
-
Antonio, unaware that Lovino had broken down as soon as he had left, went to work leading Maira back to her cage. He walked a little briskly, but not so fast that Maira would feel the need to run. Within five minutes, he was already back at Lovino's cabin, stepping in.
-
Lovino jumped at the sound of footsteps, hurrying to calm down. He swiped the tears from his cheeks, blinked them from his eyes, and took a deep breath to try and steady his panic. He had to keep it together. For Antonio. He couldn't be a burden.
-
Antonio approached the bed, sitting down next to where Lovino was curled up. "Are you doing okay?" He asked quietly. "Tell me if you need anything."
-
Lovino curled tighter, hoping to hide his likely tearstained face. "I'm fine," he said in a small voice, hoping and praying that Antonio would believe him.
