Cristian reached to his arm, peeling off the patch to flick it onto the ground. "I know I said I was quitting... But I really need one. Please," he murmured. Then he blinked, wondering if Joey would even be wanting to stay the night. "If you can.."
-
"Of course." He answered with no hesitation. "I'll be right back, okay?" The smile was back, and Joey tried to be as quick as he could when he slipped out of the room and grabbed a cigarette. Normally he wouldn't have agreed to smoking in the bedroom, but it would take to much to move Christian from the bed, and Joey wasn't going to argue with him when he was so obviously distressed. He popped back into the room and held out a single cigarette and lighter.
-
Cristian took the two items, his hands shaking while he tried to light the roll. He snapped the flint of the light three times before he finally got it, an had the cigarette lit. From there, it went right between his lips.
(Gtg, g'night.) -
Good night!)
Joey took his place again beside Christian on the bed and sighed softly. For a moment, the smouldering lit edge of the cigarette looked almost pretty, there in the dark, a barely visible wisp of smoke trailing through the air. He knew it wasn't healthy, but if it helped to calm Christian down, Joey had no arguments. -
Cristian took deep, even-as-possible huffs in and out. Each inward one make the end of the cigarette's burn fade for a moment, and the outward breaths made it look as if it were about to catch fire, though the view was hazed by the smoke. He stayed quiet, twiddling his thumbs and glaring at the spot under the blanket where his legs laid uselessy.
-
"...Do you want to talk about it?" Joey suddenly asked softly. "It might help." He added. The smoke stung his eyes a little and the smell- as always- was overpowering. But it didn't bother him, not right now, right now Christian just needed someone and Joey wasn't going to leave him alone because of a little smoke.
-
(I had this reply typed out and then my phone froze and I had to start over fml)
Cristian glanced at the doctor, then back forward, not wanting to give him a faceful of second hand smoke. He sighed, figuring that he'd never even really told Joey why he was in a chair and living off of military benefits. "It was an IED," he stated. "I was supposed to take a Jeep down a road to get it to the next base, and they said that the road was clear. But it wasn't, and the Jeep flipped and it was burning and I was stuck in there. The officers from the next base had to flip it back over themselves to get me out." -
oh XD)
Joey fell silent for a few moments. Christian had never really mentioned any part of his military career, so he was a bit surprised at just how willingly he had explained. Joey could only imagine what it was like to be trapped under the jeep, the flames, the pain, the fear. "I'm sorry," He murmured, not really sure what else to say. "But it's all over now." -
(I would reply to the other one but I'm on the tube and I fear people seeing .3.)
Cristian was not generally one for affection, or generally being kind to others. He wanted to keep his business to himself, and have other keep their business away from him. But at the moment, he liked having Joey there, even if it was just a required doctor thing. The veteran leaned over, resting against the doctor's side with a sigh. "I know." -
it's all good, propably best if nobody sees that XD)
"Good." He wrapped his arm around Christian again as he leaned against him. He ran his other hand through his hair and exhaled heavily. "...I'm not just doing this because it's my job, you know." He said softly after a moment. "When I got hear, and heard you screaming, I just..." He sighed again and shook his head. "I was really worried." -
Cristian had an odd feeling in his chest, taking a second to recognize it as some form of acknowledgment that Joey had said something somewhat affectionate. The doctor holding him suddenly felt warmer to him, less like a required being. "... Thanks," he murmured, taking the cigarette out of his mouth to roll between two fingers, "for being here."
-
Joey nodded, and without really meaning to, held him a little closer. "I'm just glad you're not hurt." He said. He was glad that Christian wasn't pushing him away, and though it might've merely been because of the nightmare, Joey was happy to be accepted, rather then just a bother to the vet.
-
That was something else that was new to Cristian. Someone caring for him not because something had happened to him, but caring that something hadn't happened. Other people pitied him and gave him (rather unwanted) help because they cared about what had happened, but Joey cared more that at least he wasn't hurting at the moment, and that he hadn't fallen. He was awkward, not sure what to say, because he'd ended up causing a long silence by not answering. So he blurted out with an "IloveyouJoey."
-
Joey froze for a moment, not quite comprehending what Christian had just blurted out. After taking a silent minute to let what he'd just said sink it, he glanced down at Christian. He did enjoy visiting him more than his other patients...he liked learning new things about Christian, what he liked and didn't like, and he felt a need to protect him. Joey smiled softly as he realized something. "I...love you too."
-
Cristian was utterly relieved that Hoey had at least not rejected him. ".. Okay," he mumbled, the slightest of smiled falling onto the corners of his lips. "Yah, that's good."
