That sounds scary .n.)
Joey shot the woman a reassuring smile, but he couldn't fight a wave of panic as he heard the sobs through the door. "Don't worry, I'll calm everything down. I'm terribly sorry your night was inturrupted." He politely apologized, while frantically pulling the spare key to the apartment from his bag. He quickly opened the apartment and abrubtly shut it behind him, relocking it. "Christian," He called out, now quite worried that he'd hurt himself somehow. "Christian?" His gaze darted around, looking for signs of an accident. -
Cristian was no more reassured in his sleep by the calling of his name. His mind only blocked it out, replacing the voice of his doctor with the voice of a soldier, calling his name. Really, the dream was one huge memory that he'd pushed away for two years, that was suddenly all being shoved back at him. He was trapped in a burning Jeep, upside down, unable to feel either of his legs. And all he was hearing was his Marines officer yelling his name. So he was, in reality, wailing and crying and strangling the pillow.
-
Joey rushed into the room, his heart pounding, dreading what he might find in the bedroom. If he had fallen, if he had gotten hurt...But there he was, in bed. Joey should've been relieved, but hearing the sobs that wracked Christian's body made Joey want to cry himself. He quickly went to the bedside, grabbing Christian's arm and shaking it lightly. "Christian, wake up, it's alright." He murmured, shaking him again.
-
Cristian felt the most terrifying wave of panic, in his dream, looking to the side to see that his arm was just as stuck as his legs. He jerked away from Joey's grip, managing to wake himself in the process. On his own, he couldn't sit up, but he gasped in a breath and opened his reddened eyes. "Oh, god."
-
Joey quickly slipped an arm around him and helped him sit up. He pursed his lips, looking down at Christian with an expression of concern and slight fear. It was most likely memories from the war that were tormenting him, and he was overwhelmingly worried. "Christian, it's okay, it's alright." He spoke softly, comfortingly.
-
"No, no." Cristian tried to breath, each one comming out as a jagged and stuttering gasp. As a desperate attempt to keep attached to the real world, he grabbed on to the arm that Joey had helped him up with. "What happened, I don't understand why that happened," he made out the words quietly, tears still streaming down his cheeks.
-
"It was only a dream, you're alright, everything's alright." When Christian grabbed his arm he felt a stab of pity, wishing there was more he could do to help. He sat down beside him on the bed and wrapped his other arm around him tightly, hugging him close to his chest and gently wiping his tears away. "Whatever you saw was a dream, I promise. Focus on me, okay? I'm here, and everything's going to be okay..."
-
Cristian felt desperately lost, and trapped, and confused, all at the same time. His dream was, to say the least, an exact repeat of the most traumatic experience in his life. Being able to hold onto some form of reality was all he needed. Both of his hands clung on to Joey, the veteran still trying to calm his breaths.
-
Joey continued to hold Christian close, gently running a hand through his hair and wiping away any stray tears. Joey couldn't relate to whatever Christian had been through while at war, but he could be there to comfort him. "I promise, Christian, it's all okay." His voice was soft, a hint of worry mixed with the calm.
-
Cristian was growing calmer with each passing moment, feeling the warm and hearing the comfort of Joey holding him. He knew it was nothing more than the doctor's responsibilty to keep him healthy, but Cristian still liked to think it was possibly not just something he had to do. Still sniffling, the veteran rested against Joey's chest.
-
Hearing his sobs fade into soft sniffs, Joey glanced down at Christian, who had placed his head on Joey's chest. The doctor swore his heart skipped a best, and Christian could probably hear it beating so fast. He silently scolded himself. He was supposed to be helping him, but being so close to him... Joey shook his head and moved to grasp one of Christian's hands with his own.
-
Cristian's first instinct to his hand being held was to jerk it away, but he didn't, managing to hold down his usual jerk-ness long enough to give the doctor's hand a little squeeze.
-
Joey squeezed back, and slowly removed his arm from it's place wrapped around Christian. "Are you okay now?" He asked. His smile was gone, genuine concern and worry etched into his face. "I'm sorry I couldn't get here sooner."
-
Cristian looked up at Joey, seeing that the smile (which he'd always thought to be a rather permanent fixture) was gone, and in it's place was a more serious look. "I'm okay. It's okay," he answered.
-
Joey nodded, giving Christian's hand one last squeeze before letting go. "Do you want anything? Coffee, water?" He tilted his head. "Do you want me to stay with you?" He asked. If Christian had another nightmare, he wanted to be right there next to him.
