Edward hesitated. Honestly, he was surprised at just how much the words hurt him. He'd thought Maurice had been warming up to him, had even started to trust him...But no. Of course not, he'd killed David, Maurice would never care for him. He wanted to keep the blonde close to him, but he couldn't bring himself to. He knew Maurice would be completely miserable. "...If it's what you want." He said quietly after a moment.

The blonde was overjoyed by the fact that his wish of freedom was being granted. He wanted to say something, but his mouth seemed to be glued shut. After a while, though, he spoke. "Why don't you come with me?" It was stupid- He hated this man, did he not? But that dream he had had was so appealing.. -
Edward stared at Maurice in surprise, almost not believing what he'd just heard. "You...want me to come with you?" He asked, sounding slightly suspicious. Maurice hated him, didn't he? However, the idea itself was very appealing. He couldn't be a pirate forever, he had enough treasure to last him ten lifetimes, and his crew members would be more than capable without him.

"More than anything," His mouth admitted without his permission. He squeezed his eyes shut, blushing brightly. Maurice had to admit- He cared for the pirate, maybe more than he did for David. No. He had loved David, he really had, but it had been a different kind of love, brought on by him being his saving grace. Edward, however, was a fiery, burning attraction that he couldn't even begin to describe.

Edward felt his own face growing slightly heated at Maurice's blunt reply. "I...suppose I could." He answered after a few seconds of silence. "We could get a house," He offered.

Maurice did stand then, and hugged the man. He didn't hate him- He couldn't. For whatever stupid reason. The same stupid reason that made him kiss him, fully and deeply.

Edward eagerly returned the kiss, and for the first time didn't try to deny his feelings. He cared about Maurice, he wanted to be with him, comfort him, protect him. He loved him. He pulled the other man closer to him and tilted his head, deepening the kiss.

Maurice wrapped his arms around the taller male's shoulders, pulling himself onto his toes to kiss the man more evenly. It wasn't a lustful kiss, like all their past ones had been, but rather one full of love and longing and, well, trust. Because Maurice did trust Edward, with his life- The pirate had more than proved he would protect him.

Edward pulled back first, but kept his arms around Maurice, holding him close. He no longer needed to ask if Maurice trusted him, the kiss was enough to answer all his questions. "I love you," He whispered. It slipped out before he could think about whether or not he wanted to say it, but it was true.

The blonde said nothing in response, but his his face in the man's still-bare chest, inhaling the sent he was slowly coming to love. He wouldn't say it back, he couldn't just yet- The loss of David still hurt a bit to much for him to admit his feelings without becoming sick with guilt. Instead, though, he pressed his forehead against the warm skin, and muttered a quick, "Knowing that makes me happy."

Glancing down, Edward saw his hesitation and gently stroked a hand through his hair. "You don't have to say it back. I'm just glad you're happy." He spoke quietly, knowing how hard it must be for Maurice to get used to not having David.

Maurice smiled softly at being reassured that he hadn't hurt the captain. He let out a yawn, pulling away from the man, falling back on the bed. "I'm going to sleep," He told him, pulling the blankets over him, closing his eyes. Within not much time, he drifted off to the rocking of the ship.

Edward smiled faintly and slid into the bed beside him, closing his own eyes and sighing. After a few moments, he was asleep as well, comforted by the warmth of Maurice being beside him and the gentle rocking of the ship.
