He ordered a soda and insisted it was all he wanted. Once the waiter left to go help other people and put in their order, he rested his head on his hand and stared at her.

She tilted her head and met his gaze evenly, a small smile playing on her lips. She wondered what he was thinking about, it would be so much easier if she could read minds like he could.

He smiled back, a bit. "You know, I wonder what would be different if I'd visited every week or two."

Ella looked thoughtful for a few moments. "I dunno. I mean I guess we'd be closer. It would be harder to keep you hidden from my parents." She shrugged. "What do you think would change?"

He thought about it. For one, he wouldn't be seeing her in the way he was right now. He'd still view her as a little kid, instead of the woman that had somehow sprouted up so quickly. He wouldn't be as focused on the scent of her, or of her blood, or the beauty in her eyes, or the softness of her lips. Rory really wanted to feel those lips, preferably against his own.
He shrugged. "I don't know." -
She grinned with a childlike happiness as the waited set down the pancakes in front of her. She practically drowned them in syrup and started eating. "Sorry if I worried you this morning, I just really couldn't be late. My boss is pretty strict."

"Only a little, just because of the night before. I wasn't too worried, though." He watched as she downed the pancakes, and took a sip of his soda. It was more bearable than the popcorn.

"Right," She blushed lightly and glanced down. "Sorry about that last night, I didn't mean to scream like that." She rubbed the back of her neck, slightly embarrased. "Or to freak out and freeze up afterward." She took another bite of the pancakes, still avoiding his eyes.

He shrugged. "You know... reading minds also allows you to input your own thoughts, to an extent. It takes a lot of effort, but I could try doing that, if you wanted to." He took another sip.

Ella nodded quickly, intrigued. "Yeah, show me!" She pleaded with a smile. That could dido agley come in handy for getting rid of nightmares. As if mind reading weren't impressive enough, now he could almost...control minds. She wanted to see it in action.

He leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes. As soon as he slipped into her mind, he tossed in one of his own thoughts. Like this. Wink at me when I open my eyes if you're hearing this, please. He opened his eyes and smiled at her. "It's not exactly mind control, I know you were thinking that. It's just gentle persuasion."

Ella grinned and winked at him. "That's amazing!" When he'd thought-spoken to her like that she could feel...almost a presence in her mind. It was faint, but she was sure she could feel him there.

Rory nodded. "Tiring, though, a bit. I'm not sure how far I can do it from." He was glad she was impressed.

Ella nodded. It made sense that a power like that could be tiring. She finished eating and glanced at the clock. "I've gotta get back to work..." She mumbled with a sigh, digging into her pocket for some cash to pay.

He shook his head. "I've got it." When they brought them the bill, he took it and went to pay.
