Cameron complied, tugging the jacket tightly over jimself and scooting closer to the fire. Its heat helped him warm up, and he looked over at the tribe boy. He couldn't help but stare for a moment; he just looked so much different than what Cameron was used to. "Why don't you want to kill me?" He asked. The question had been bugging him for a while now.
-
Marcus frowned. "You haven't done anything to me." He said simply. "When I shot you, I didn't want to. My people are stubborn, they hate change and refuse to do it. I...I guess I'm just different." He spoke a little quieter. "I've always admired those." He gestured in Cameron's general direction. "Your wings I mean."
-
"But we raid towns like your's all the time. We've probably even been to this one before," Cameron sighed. He, too, wasn't very proud at all of his tribe's lifestyle choices. "I suppose I'm different as well." He looked over at the wings Marcus had mentioned. "They're our best creations. I made that pair myself."
-
He looked up, his expression obviously impressed. He glanced over at what was left of the damaged wings. "They're amazing." He said sincerely, studying the wings. They intrigued him, the thought of being able to fly like that himself had always been incredible, but with his people he knew it was unrealistic. He grabbed his pack and pulled out two apples, tossing one to Cameron.
-
"...Thanks," Cameron murmured. His wings were like an extension of himself, after all, so it they are complimented, he was as well. He caught the apple, wiping the side of it clean with his fingers before taking a bite.
-
Marcus nodded and took a bite of his own apple. He stared at the fire, a sudden realization hitting him. Of course he wouldn't miss the ways of his people, but as of now, he was homeless. He'd just left behind everything he'd ever known without a second thought.
-
Cameron's bites of his apple were small and slow. He was more focused on waving his hands by the fire every once in a while to keep warm. "Are there any other villages nearby? We'll have to find somewhere more permanent eventually."
-
Marcus took another bite of his apple, thinking for a few seconds. "There are a few, but they're all pretty far. A few days at least, on foot." He told the other boy. They'd just have to make the journey.
-
"Oh." Cameron had no desire to continue walking- or running, for that matter- but if it was the only way to get to another village... It wasn't like his wing was going to be repaired anytime soon.
-
Marcus nodded. The next village over attracted lots of merchants, so with luck they'd be able to find materials to fix Cameron's wings. Some small part of Marcus almost hoped they didn't though. Once Cameron's wings were fixed, he'd be able to fly back to his people, and Marcus would be alone.
-
Cameron finished his apple in silence, and tossed the core of it to the side for a forest animal to discover later. "So we'll sleep here for a while... Then get moving tomorrow before the sun's up."
-
Marcus nodded. "You get some sleep, I'll keep watch." He wasn't too tired, and Cameron had gone through a lot in one day. He needed the rest more. A few bites later he finished his own apple and tossed the core over towards where Cameron had thrown his.
-
"Alright," Cameron hummed, moving to lay stomach down on the ground with his arms holding up his head. "Wake me up whenever to switch so I can watch and you sleep."
-
Marcus shook his head and smiled. "You need the rest more. I'll be fine for tonight." He moved to take off another layer and held it out. "You can lay on this if you want, the ground probably isn't very comfortable."
-
Cameron sighed, feeling bad to take a whole night's rest from the other. But he was admittedly tired, and beat up, and wanted nothing more than to sleep wherever he could. "Alright... No, then you'll freeze. I'm fine. Thank you." Cameron closed his eyes before Marcus could make him take it.
