He was literally trembling, almost afraid his legs would give out. That voice... the voice he loved more than anything, gave proof the other was alive as well. "Alden...of God, Alden...I can't tell you how much I've needed to hear from you..." He sniffed, wiping his freshly tear-filled eyes.
His love sounded just as broken up as he did. He wanted to be there to hold him and wipe away the tears. Every fiber of his being yearned for that. "I love you, Alden...we're okay..." -
Her mother kissed her forehead, keeping her close. "It'll all be over soon." she whispered, more to herself then Camilla. "Very soon...."
-
"I love you, too... So god damn much..." He managed to muster a few words between sobs. He sniffled and took a breath. "I... I broke my promise... Charles... I-I got... shot..." Alden shook his head in shame. He had failed his Charlie; he had done him wrong. If he had just been paying attention... He sniffed again.
"I'm so... so sorry, Charlie... I wasn't paying attention and I...." He hung his head, leaning it against the metal countertop. -
He listened closely, surprised. Not the least bit angry, but now very worried. "Alden, you have to get that fixed! I...can't stand that you're hurt! This is my fault..." His tears started to flood again. "I should have been there, I shouldn't have let you go alone! Alden...I'm so sorry..." He wanted to punch something, or well, 'someone'. Whoever the bastard was that shot his Alden.
-
And since Camilla was only a minor character, she faded out until something important came up again.
-
"It's not your fault, love... Don't say that... I shouldn't have left you there..." He let out a trembling breath. "I think they... They killed almost everyone in the battle... It was bloody awful, Charlie... The corpses... All of those poor people.... with family and loved ones.... They weren't even wearing dogtags, the half of them..." Alden shook his head ruefully.
"I hate this war... God, if I could I would just end this right here..."
The war had separated the two of them, as well as corrupted Alden's sense of trust. The only person who could pour his heart and soul into was Charles... Everyone else, besides his family, was a morbid beast.
Alden got the sense of being watched. He pivoted in the stool, seeing a darkly clad individual crouching behind some various junk. He blinked twice and labelle the sighting as a mirage, a trick of the light, before turning back around. -
"I know exactly what you mean...it's the same thing here." He looked forward sadly. "When I was out on patrol, there was this little girl who's been orphaned because of this damn war. And she's definitely not the only one. I really wish we could do something, besides adding to the damage." He sighed, his hands still just as shaky.
"Alden, we're going to make it through this, you and I. I swear, I will do everything in my power to bring us back together. I'll never let you go ever again..." -
"As soon as this is over... It'll be you and me, Charlie... Like it was always meant to be..." He shut his eyes, replaying his fantasies over in his mind. Waking up every morning to his love beside him, spending every waking minute with Charlie...
"I promise I will see you again, Charlie... Nothing will ever tear us apart." -
(I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but wouldn't it be sweet if they adopted the little girl? :'3)
"Yes, just how it should be..." He smiled softly, wiping away the last remaining tears. The man who lead him to the phone cleared his throat, signaling for him to wrap things up.
"I have to go...goodbye Alden. I love you, stay strong." He sadly parted with the phone, though couldn't be more thankful that he heard Alden's voice. It was exactly what he needed. What pushed him on and gave him strength. -
(Oh my god, I was thinking the exact same thing! ^^)
"Goodbye, I love you." With that, he heard Charlie's line cut off. He slowly placed the phone back in the stand and stood up to leave.
It was a true blessing to hear his voice, and he would never be able to repay God for keeping his Charles safe. He made his way out of the building, his mind now focused on that little girl Charlie had been speaking about. -
(Yay, great minds think alike! :D)
As Charles was walking back to his tent, he saw the girl run up to him. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked, and she hugged his leg for comfort. "I still can't find mommy or daddy..." She said sadly. His gaze softened and he crouched down. "Sweetheart, your parents...have gone to be with the Lord..." "Really? Will they be coming back?" She asked, sweetly and innocently. "Well, no, you see they have left to go home. Someday you'll see them again. It's just, they've moved." He tried to explain. "Oh... why couldn't I come?" She asked. "It's not time for you to go yet. You still have to live a long long time before you can." He smiled, ruffling her hair lightly.
She giggled. "Oh, okay. Well... if mommy and daddy aren't here anymore... then who's going to take care of me?" His heart twinged, hating to see the poor kid all alone like this. "Well, I'm sure arrangements will be made. Until then, you should stay here with us so we can make sure you're safe." "Okay." She hugged the bunny doll she still had from earlier. "My name is Lisa. What's yours?" "That's a lovely name. My name's Charles, but you can call me Charlie." He smiled and stood up again. "Are you hungry or thirsty? The mess hall should have some good things to eat and drink." "Okay!" She smiled brightly, following him. -
(Haha, indeed! :3)
Alden walked quickly around camp, the dead bodies on the ground forming a sort of obstacle course or maze. Once he reached his tent he lay down on his bed, its spring mattress now seeming extremely comfortable. His eyes flickered closed after he prayed. His prayer was the same every day.
"Dear Lord," he whispered. "Thank you for all of the blessings you have given me. I cannot repay you enough for a you have done to keep Charles safe. Please continue to do so. Please let this war come to an end soon enough... Keep Charles alive and safe from harm... That is all I ask. Amen."
His dreams consisted of the dead corpses, their eyes like deep vortexes, a never ending mass of nothingness. Then the scene changes. He is back in America, with Charles. He is smiling, laughing, his eyes sparkle like the stars. The sound of his beautiful voice...
Wake up, sleepyhead.
His eyes peel open. He is half expecting to turn and find Charlie with him, but instead he is greeted by a muddy green plastic wall. Alden can still feel his breath warm on his neck... But alas, there is nothing beside him but negative space.
He glances out of the mesh window. It is dark; he had slept for about three or four hours.
He was still here. In England. Charlie was still half a world away, in America. In his dreams, he always seemed so much closer. -
Sypher had followed the cadet, noting anything he said, any suspicious moves, and anything taking note of. Once Alden fell asleep, he crept away, climbed into a tree and slept there. The man had seemed so strange to Sypher...

Anyone online? :3

^^ Guess not. I shall ask now, to get it over with. I am pondering taking this rp and altering it a bit to write a novel... Does anyone have any objections?
