Alden sat on the rickety bunk beds they were provided at the military camp. The war had started about three months earlier; his company had been moving within the country for some time, fighting off those who tried to invade and guarding the borders. For now, they were fighting a battle on the defensive; but soon, the prime minister had assured them, they would turn the tables.
He reached into his back and pulled out a notebook and pen, quickly addressing the letter to Charlie in his erratic manuscript.
Charlie,
It's been so long since I've seen you. Not a day goes by when I don't think of you. The only thing that keeps me waking up each morning is the memory of your face, your smile... Just you. You're what keeps me alive in this dismal situation.
We've been patrolling the area for some time. My company hasn't seen much action on the battle field... That's good, right? It increases the odds of me making it out alive after all of this is over.
I replay the day I left every night. I realize that I can never fix all of the hurt I caused you by leaving. I always knew you'd understand. My intentions were never to hurt you.
Stay strong. Keep fighting. We'll be together soon.

Camilla sat by her bedroom window, looking at the world around her. She and her parents were currantly residing in a small town unaffected by the blood shed around them. A little safe haven for anyone passing through. She sighed, wishing more then anything to be with her brother.

Charlie was lying in quite a similar situation, just many miles away. As he laid on the top bunk he read over the letters he had received from the one he loved over the time since he departed, only in dim light. Sounds of bombs and rockets going off in the distance provided white noise for him, something he just had to get used to with this war. What he'd given to see him again, his soft face and eyes. Even while at duty he couldn't clear his mind completely. He picked up his yellow military notepad, and a pen, scribbling down a new letter.
Alden,
We've been on rendezvous for a long time now, my company and I, with no end in sight it seems. I try everyday to keep myself sane with memories of us and how things used to be. Though it sometimes feels in vain, I pray and hope for things to change for the better soon, and that we can be together again.
From the north our once good allies, the Canadians, have started to fire on small towns and villages. It's only a matter of time until they reach a city like Seattle or Detroit, maybe even Boston. But we're all doing a lot to keep such things from happening. I'm pretty confident a counter strike will shock them back for at least a good while.
I miss you, more than I could ever say in words. Don't die or get hurt, okay? I wouldn't be able to stand that. I love you, until we meet again, my love.
