'It's okay. I'm mad at him too,' Maeve said. 'It's not like this hasn't happened before though.'
-
Jayd raised his eyebrows, looking up. "What?"
-
Maeve glanced at Beatrice. 'When he and Beatrice broke up, she blackmailed him to let her stay in the castle for a few more days. Multiple times she forced him to kiss her.'
-
Jayden grimaced, looking down. "Jesus christ-" He mumbled. What sort of blackmail is so bad that he let her do that to him?
-
Maeve nodded, fidgeting with her hands. 'Most of the time it wasn't even for clout, which is why I'm guessing she kissed him yesterday.'
Their food came. Oliver grabbed two plates and walked towards the door. -
Jayden sighed, feeling a pit in his stomach. "What finally got him to kick her out?" He said, thinking out loud. "Sorry, you don't have to answer that."
-
'He didn't. She just disappeared one morning after destroying their flower bed,' Maeve said.
-
Jayd frowned, running his hand through his hair. "That's awful." He mumbled, looking down.
-
Maeve nodded, taking a bite from her food. 'I suppose he didn't explain that to you, though, did he?'
-
"Not at all." He said, feeling guilty for yelling at him.
-
Maeve was silent for a moment, continuing to eat. 'He should've told you after it happened. But I get why he didn't.'
Oliver walked into Chester's room and set the food on the bedside table. 'Chester, if you start crying, you're going to set the castle on fire.'
Chester, who was in his phoenix form, morphed back into a human. -
Jayden nodded slightly. What was he supposed to do now? Going back in Chester's room and saying that he believed him all of a sudden just felt too off. Like he was just being indecisive and would freak out again within the hour. But just ignoring him and acting like they were just on a break felt too cold.
-
Chester sat up. Oliver sat next to him and handed him his plate. 'Eat. It'll make you feel better.'
Chester sighed and nibbled on his food. 'Did Jayden say anything?'
'Maeve told him about when you and Beatrice broke up.'
'Ah.' -
Oliver nodded. "You both ought to talk to each other after breakfast."
-
'I don't know if he'd want to see me,' Chester said quietly, spooning food into his mouth. 'He seemed pretty upset.'
