Eden was sitting in the corner, sketching away. her mother lay in her bed, reading a book. the hospital chair was stiff and uninviting, but nonetheless she sat there to sketch the stunning view which could be beheld from the window.
"Eden," they're mother said, placing her book down on the nightstand. "there's someone moving into the ward soon. maybe you can actually have relationships." she light heartedly joked, chuckling a little.
Eden closed her sketchbook "people aren't that much of my thing. what do I even do? walk in and say, 'oh hi! we're friends now'"
Her mother gave her a look, then said "give them a get well card. you know how hard its been for us since I got diagnosed."
Eden sighed, then got up. she threw her book near her hospital bag, then picked their wallet up "I don't know how people work, but to make you happy I'll go to the gift shop and get something for them."
shortly after, Eden returned with a card in hand. it was all she could afford. she looked around the room for a pen and her mother handed her one.
"only a card?" she asked, jokingly.
"I'm broke, Julia." Eden joked back.
"calling me by first name now, I see?" they both laughed. then Eden signed the card and headed to the room next to her mothers. -
Amelia and her parents arrived at the hospital for a chemo and surgery. She’d have to stay there for a week.
A nurse led them to the room they’d be staying in, right next to Eden and her mother’s.
‘You won’t have to share with anyone, since you’re staying for a while,’ the nurse said. ‘Get settled in, and a doctor will be here to consult you in a bit.’
Amelia sat on the bed. Her mother pat her knee and put down her handbag. ‘This is good, okay? We’ll be out of here before you know it.’
‘Yeah, I know,’ Amelia mumbled. -
Eden popped her head through the door, nervous, but determined to make her mother happy in these difficult times, she walked in.
"uhm, I got this. it isn't much, but I hope it helps." Eden knew how hard struggling with cancer was, wither it was the patient or a relative. "I'm Eden, my moms in the room next door." -
Amelia looked up at her in confusion, and a hint of annoyance. Her mother smiled warmly. 'Hello, Eden.'
