Metus already sent out a distress signal))
-
Alr)) Astrid tensed up, looking at Cheyenne defiantly. "they are not useless. I should have known you were a filthy traitor." Astrid heard the distress signal, and she had to go and help soon. she kicked snow into Cheyennes face then attempted to leave a wound across Cheyennes face.
-
Metus bit onto their own front paw. They couldn't stand this panic. Not right now, when everyone needed them. But reminding themselves of the importance they had was causing more panic. Metus let go of their leg, then sat down. They forced their eyes to close and then, agonizingly, they started to count, slowly. "one.... Two ... Three.... Four... Five... then they got up, and they continued on their hunt to find Astrid.
-
Cheyenne stands confidently before Astrid, an alpha in her own right, yet she regards her rival with disdain and mockery. In her eyes, she holds herself to a higher standard, waiting for Astrid to demonstrate her worthiness as an equal. Cheyenne has no intention of having the same title as those she perceives as weak.
"Oh yeah? Well where are they then?" The alpha she-wolf cackles, only to be cut off by a swift blow to the face. Momentarily, she's stunned, as she can feel a burning warmth trickling down her snout combined with the sheer cold of the snow shower she just received. Don't get too cocky. she reminds herself, quickly shaking off her pelt. As quickly as she's disoriented, Cheyenne bounces back and is on the attack.
"b----!" She makes an attempt for Astrid's other uninjured shoulder, hoping to disarm her in the front with a fierce claw swipe. -
Astrid attempts to dodge but only succeeds to take half of the damage. Astrid growled. "You're the b----!" she then attempted to lunge at Cheyennes pelt and bite it.
-
Metus ran through the trees, dodging and weaving through the forest until they came upon the scene of Cheyenne and Astrid's battle. They stalked closer, keeping hidden by the trees until all of a sudden, they pounced at Cheyenne's back, claws outstretched. Metus was confident with knowledge that soon their allies would be taking out the rest of these wolves.
-
An overwhelming rush of adrenaline courses through Cheyenne, causing her to tremble. She licks her lips, her eyes flitting around in different directions to absorb the chaotic scene unfolding before her. The Moonstone pack is gaining the upper hand against Ruby, shifting the momentum in their favor. Ruby's spirit is waning, with some of their forces already fleeing down the mountain. A general from Ruby catches Cheyenne's gaze, their expression one of defeat as they shake their head. Frustration escapes her in a heavy sigh, but just as she loses focus, she regains her composure in time to dodge Astrid's strike.
"Ugh.. you.." The alpha lets out a disgruntled growl, her disappointment palpable as the situation spirals unexpectedly. In this instant, the weight of her misjudgment hits her as she realizes she had grossly underestimated her foe. A wave of shame and irritation washes over her, a stark reminder of her reckless overconfidence. She had definitely jumped the gun. Lost in her own thoughts, the she-wolf fails to notice Metus approaching from behind, their sudden tackle catching her off guard, their claws raking down her back with a sharp sting. She lets out a yelp.
After yet another tumble on the treacherous ground, Cheyenne lets out a sharp hiss, acutely aware of a painful crack reverberating through her body. f---. Did I break something? She crashes onto her side with a harsh thud, the crimson stain of her blood forming a silhouette around her.
Straining to hear, she turns her head just in time to catch the sound of Moonstone's allies drawing near, their presence looming ominously over the mountain. Overwhelmed by vulnerability, Cheyenne raises a trembling paw, silently pleading for an end to their fight. However, the weight of her pride anchors her, preventing her from issuing the command for her troops to withdraw entirely. -
Astrid heaves in a breath, her muscles still tense. the ground was littered with blood and tufts of fur. she was relieved to see metus came in time.
-
Metus kept on his guard. Their eyes looked quickly towards Astrid before snapping back to Cheyenne, hesitant to look away from the enemy. "We should've seen your treachery." Metus said to Cheyenne. They glared like they did back in the office. They could hear the swift approach of the pack allies. They wouldn't drop their guard though, they could see how hurt Astrid got in the fight. It made Metus want to attack right now.
-
Beneath her tough exterior, Cheyenne feels a flicker of gratitude for this unexpected reprieve. With great effort, she pushes herself up from the ground, the snow beneath her stained with a vivid crimson. Gasping for air, she fights to steady herself, clearing her throat as she gathers her resolve. Drawing on every ounce of her strength, the alpha releases a defeated howl, signaling to her pack. They hesitate, glancing back at her with a mix of confusion and concern, before reluctantly beginning their descent from the mountain. Cheyenne watches her troops begin to retreat, then looks back towards Astrid and Metus with an unreadable expression. In this moment, she says nothing.
-
As Astrid let out a heavy sigh, she watched the blood moon pack leave, she laid down for a minute in exhaustion, catching her breath in relief. Her packs victory against the betrayal was a miracle, to say the least. The snow felt cold against her underbelly, and she could feel it melting and making her underside wet.
-
Metus walked over to Astrid and promptly collapsed beside her, shivering as they tried to calm down after the battle. Their front leg hurt from self inflicted damage and all of their legs were feeling bruised from running. They took huge breaths trying to regain their energy. "We won." Metus said in an exhausted tone.
-
Cheyenne makes a real effort to mask her disappointment, yet a deep-seated bitterness churns within her. While Astrid and Metus begin to unwind, she feels an unsettling tension creeping into her muscles, amplifying her unease. In the immediate moment, the alpha is unsure of her next move, however it becomes increasingly clear that she must reassess not only her tactics but also her allies. Struggling to maintain her posture, she avoids placing any weight on her injured back right paw. As she watches the couple, her untreated wounds continue to seep, and dirt clings to her once-spotless cream fur, each breath heavy with the weight of her predicament.
"Hmm.." She breathes out deeply. "For now." Cheyenne casts a final, lingering glance at her adversary before turning away, the first light of dawn painting the mountains in soft hues of pink. The snow glistens like a thousand tiny diamonds, reflecting a spectrum of whites, pinks, and reds that dance in the early morning light.
Gradually, she descends the slope, her eyes absorbing the grim remnants of the battle - blood, fur, and lifeless forms strewn across the path. A fleeting thought crosses her mind, mourning the fallen wolves of each pack, envisioning their once vibrant lives filled with joy and the fierce determination that brought them to this tragic end. Yet, she quickly suppresses those emotions, reminding herself that hope has no place in the brutality of war, a harsh truth she cannot ignore. The she-wolf steps over the body of a fallen Blood Moon wolf without looking back, eventually catching up to join those who survived. The worthy ones. -
Astrid looked back at Cheyenne, an unreadable expression laminating her face. Astrid sighed, the breeze picked up and rustled the trees and pants around them. she looked at the rising sun, "we did, with a couple of surprises along the way." she chuckled, and blood dripped from her giant wound in her shoulder.
-
"I wish I'd figured it out sooner.... I'm sorry I didn't." Metus said. They looked over the blood soaked ground and traced the scenery. Metus knew these woods like their own skin. They noticed every broken branch and wanted to weep for them.
