Cheyenne finds herself perched in solitude at her opulent desk, enveloped by the several bookshelves of her extravagant office. The floor beneath her, a pale granite, is also adorned with a sumptuous velvet carpet that invites a soft touch, its rich crimson hues adding warmth to the space. Pale moonlight streams through the grand windows, illuminating the sleek marble windowsills that gleam like polished gems. Her desk, a masterpiece crafted from polished sandalwood, boasts intricate grain patterns that tell a story of luxury and refinement. Every element in the room, from the ornate light fixtures to the carefully curated artwork on the walls, exudes an aura of unattainability.
"Adrianna, sugarplum, you wouldn't mind to fetch me my chess set, would you? The one with pieces made of Baccarat crystals." the boss called across the large office towards her assistant in a sickly honeyed yet commanding tone, as if it were known to both parties that she was not asking. Cheyenne's eyes did not search for the other woman, nor did they have to. Adrianna had appeared in an instant before her superior, ready to answer.
"Yes, of course, my lady." Adrianna responded softly but surely. Ever since their earliest days, the young woman has been a steadfast and reliable companion, the embodiment of devotion. Through their countless childhood experiences together, she has firmly established her role as Cheyenne's most trusted servant, embracing it without a hint of doubt or hesitation. With a diverse array of skills at her disposal, Adrianna moves through the spaces of the alpha's life like a whispering breeze, appearing and disappearing seamlessly, always ready to lend a hand whenever and wherever the need arises.
Nearly as quickly as the conversation as over, the chess set is produced. Cheyenne watches intently as her assistant delicately sets the shimmering crystal chess set onto the polished surface of the desk. With a graceful curtsy, Adrianna slips out of the room without another word, moving with an ethereal silence that makes her seem almost like a ghost. The tycoon, savoring the moment alone, opens the chess set slowly and in a ceremonial manner. She meticulously examines each intricately crafted piece as they glimmer under the moon's eye, twirling them around in perfectly manicured sanguine digits. She then gently positions them with precision on the board, ensuring that every knight, bishop, and pawn finds its rightful place in the unfolding game.
With a focused gaze, she contemplates the board, envisioning the downfall of her opponent. One by one, she advances her pieces with calculated precision, each pawn and knight falling into place like soldiers in a well-rehearsed formation. Cheyenne captures a rook, and then a bishop, and then.. she hesitates, leaving only a King and Queen. Her own King dances around the rest of the board lazily in a circular motion, held loosely between two fingers.
"Astrid... Metus..." the wolf snarled in a deep, throaty tone. "I do wonder.. are you aware of your complacency? Your fragility?" Her crimson orbs shift back to the last two remaining pieces disdainfully. After a brief pause, emulating the same motion one would use to shoo a fly, she flicks her wrist and knocks the pieces off of the board. They take a pitiful tumble down from the wooden desk and completely shatter into several small shards, scattering like tiny stars across the smooth granite surface. Her eyes glistened, taking in the sight.
"After all, in such a time of dominion, the packs deserve a capable and formidable leader to depend on." A smile creeps up Cheyenne's lips. "But.. I suppose a game is no fun if you already know everything about your opponent. Oh, I do look forward to finding out."
(btw there's absolutely noooo need to write as much as i did! i'm just trying to set up some context lol
all i ask is you give me a long enough response to continue the story with, pls and thx ) -
Astrid was at a loss for words, silently clenching her jaw and folding her arms tightly across her chest, Cheyennes highly esteemed nature was one that irritated Astrid. as she looked down at the chess peices, she was awed and disgusted that Cheyenne would be so careless to break a stunning chess set and the tiny pieces reminded her of the stars.irritated "hello Cheyenne" she said in a agitated way.

Metus braided his hair anxiously. This was not the place he'd particularly wanted to be today. He'd rather be out fishing in the lake, or carving figurines. Instead he was in an office, with scary girls who were discussing politics. They pulled their small braid tighter and looked at the scenery, choosing to look at anything but Cheyenne. "I think I know well enough I'm not cut out for this." Metus mumbled under their breath, looking down at their feet.
-
Cheyenne gradually reclines in her chair, her gaze shifting between Astrid and Metus as she scrutinizes their individual expressions. With a composed demeanor, she interlaces her fingers and rests her hands in front of her on the desk. Several moments tick by, punctuated by the rhythmic ticking of an antique grandfather clock. Its sound resonates through the spacious office, yet it isn't enough to deafen the silence.
Creeeek. Adrianna reappears through the doorway just as abruptly as she had vanished, this time cradling a steaming pot of rich black coffee. The pot, gleaming in a beautiful porcelain white, was crafted from exquisite china and adorned with delicate red roses that seem to bloom with life. The servant pauses for a heartbeat to take in the sight of broken glass before her before effortlessly weaving around the pile and sliding a cup towards her boss. The alpha smoothly catches the cup in motion with an open palm, slipping her pinky into the handle.
"Coffee, anyone?" The woman offers, her tone suddenly changing to one more light-hearted. Again, though, it is clear to all present she is not really asking. Regardless of whether or not her supposed esteemed guests were thirsty, a coaster and teacup were still delicately placed in front of them on the opposite end of the desk. Then, a small pitcher of milk and a bowl of sugar cubes in the middle. Without looking at anyone in the eye, aware of just how much space she is allowed to take up in this situation, Adrianna gracefully pours coffee into both Astrid and Metus' cups before slipping away to find a broom. As the assistant leaves, you can hear the slight crunch of shattered crystals underneath her shoes.
Cheyenne pauses to examine the bowl of sugar cubes, selecting her favorite one with care, and drops it into the cup. The coffee remains hot and steaming, yet she opts to stir it with her finger, unfazed by the warmth. The boss takes a long swig, letting the liquid linger in her mouth as she purses her lips. She relishes the blend of sweetness coating her tongue and of bitterness pinching her throat.
"It's just perfect. Have some." -
Astrids expression altered slightly around the coffee, not by much, but ever so slightly. as she put two imperfect sugar cubes into the coffee her silvery grey eyes glimmered like the sugar cubes as they fell into the dark liquid. she took a short sip, and put it down trying her best reaction, not wanting to give Cheyenne the satisfaction of being correct. she pulled a gold fountain pen with delicate black carvings that were very delicate and tiny. astrids didn't own as many nice things as Cheyenne, but the nice things she did have felt more special than all the priceless things that were in the office. "we came here to talk about something" she said, looking out the window "are you going to get to the point?
-
Metus glared at the cup. He was never a coffee fan. It made him jittery. He added milk and three sugar cubes. They sipped it once, then cringed at the bitterness. They decided to just stir it until it was taken away. "I'd rather not stand here all day. I have tripwires to set up." Metus added uselessly. He then silently cursed himself for butting in. Everything was easier when they slipped into the background.

A flash of amusement dances around Cheyenne's expression for a split second and disappears just as quickly. In her time as alpha female, she has become quite adept at navigating the treacherous waters of two-faced leaders and colleagues. Engaging in lengthy dialogues that are laced with mutual flattery, each party eager to inflate the other's ego, has become a forte. These conversations, often stretching on for what feels like an eternity, are a delicate dance of insincerity, where compliments flow as freely as the air they breathe.
How refreshing. Cheyenne appreciates those who are direct and who speak their mind. Slowly, her finger emerges from the teacup. A small drop of coffee threatens to fall from her fingertip and she catches it with her tongue. Finally, the woman realizes that prolonging her act won't be well-received by her audience, so she opts for a more direct approach. Rising from her chair, she leans across the desk, locking her gaze with Astrid's, her eyes filled with determination and clarity.
"Do forgive me, Miss Astrid. I suppose I had been waiting for you so long that I just wanted to savor this moment." A cheeky grin spreads across her lips as she holds her tongue in between her teeth mischievously. Her tongue glides across her canines before withdrawing. Cheyenne recognized Astrid as a fellow leader, which naturally positioned Metus as her alpha male and partner in their dynamic. Yet, the way Metus flitted in and out of the discussion began to grate on her nerves, prompting her to decide to exclude him altogether. Those who did not have confidence or conviction did not matter to her.
She continues, "But allow me not to waste your time. I invited you here to offer you my help." Her tone once again becomes soft and honeyed, though it thickly coats her ambitions underneath. "If we join forces, I can offer you and the people of your pack our protection." The alpha makes a wide gesture with one arm to signify their surroundings. "Besides, we can always have more coffee time." -
(ooc: im sorry.. is the term 'alpha male' ok for metus? and he/him pronouns ok? i don't want to misgender any characters)
-
astrids gaze softened from anger to thought. as her long pointed nail tapped over the pen, she thought more about it. she brought the pen to help her think and calm down, as she often did. she then pulled the stocking over her knee and looked to Metus "what do you think Metus?" she knew how important it was for their pack, even if she didnt trust Cheyenne. but even though Cheyenne pretty much only spoke directly to Astrid, she knew that Metus was her partner, and they got to make the decisions too. Astrid straightened her position and fiddled with the pen cap. she needed to do whatever she could to protect the pack she cared so deeply for.
-
Alpha male is fine, they will get irritated if only ever referred to as he/him though))
"It's an okay deal, but what do we bring to the offer. These deals don't come free." Metus said wearily. They pulled their newest braid free and looked directly at Cheyenne. He looked on stern now. There was always a catch. The pack had to know whatever it was before it would be wise to continue. They stopped stirring the cup of coffee and set their hand gently but firmly on Astrid's shoulder so she could push it away if she wished. They looked over, their steely look softening for a moment as they looked at their mate before returning to their stone cold stare. He could pull away from the conversation later. -
(i think before we continue it may be useful to get a better idea of the setting, i found this cool link showing territories of different wolf packs in washington. you don't have to use the name of the pack if you don't want to, but if you could pick a certain pack's area and i'll pick another pack's area close by.. maybe someplace close to a river? that would be useful for my next response! please and thx
