"Are you used to having guests?" Sebastian asked. Stupid question since the seats were covered with dust, but why else would someone have 6 seats?

‘Oh, no, I haven’t had any guests in years!’ Vincent said, sitting down in the one seat not covered in dust.

Sebastian sat next to him.

Vincent rested his elbows on the table, staring at Sebastian with a fascinated expression for a moment. He wasn’t sure if he liked the company or not. ‘So, Sebastian. Eh, that name’s too long. Mind if I use a nickname?’

Sebastian noticed the stares. "Go ahead." He shrugged.

‘Sebastian, Sebastian….’ Vincent muttered under his breath a few times, trying to think of a nickname. ‘Sebby!’

Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "Hard pass."

‘Sebby, Sebby… Sebastian! No, that’s your actual name, that won’t work… Bas? Bassy?’

Sebastian paused. "Bas works."

‘Bas it is,’ Vincent said, very proud of himself. Albert walked into the room, limbs clanking as he did so, and set two plates of mac and cheese on the table. He had stuck a cog in Sebastian’s out of spite.

Sebastian pictured all the ways he could find a way to get rid of Albert. Maybe he could reprogram it to glitch out and make Vincent scrap it for parts...

‘Thank you, Albert,’ Vincent said.
‘Of course, master,’ the robot said, stared at Sebastian for a moment, then clanked away. -
"I don't think your robot likes me very much." Sebastian said once Albert was out of earshot- or gearshot? Whatever.

‘He’s suspicious about visitors. Don’t worry, he’ll warm up to you,’ Vincent said nonchalantly. ‘The last apprentice I had tried to steal one of my inventions. Hilarious, right?’

Sebastian froze. "Yeah, hilarious. Did they uh- did they manage to?"
