"Uh, yeah, she- she'll be fine, she just needs a minute," Lauren replied, watching Kathy walk off. She looked back, sighing softly. "Sorry, I'm- I'm sure she'll come back out in a minute."

“Don’t be sorry, she’s mysterious, I get it, it’s cool,” Ed said with an understanding smile, chuckling a little. “So, uh, Michael, what grade are you in?” “Fifth! I’m so excited to finally be in middle school next year-“ “You’re excited? s---, I mean, good for you,” Ed said with a chuckle. “You play any sports?” “Oh- yeah! I run track with my school-“ “No s---, little dude? That’s awesome-“

Lauren smiled, watching the boys for a moment before looking back at Kathy's bedroom door. "I'll be right back, just gonna check on Kathy," she spoke, standing up and walking over to her room.

“Alright,” Ed said with a soft smile, nodding. “If you need backup, I’ll be standing at the ready-“

"Got it, thanks," Lauren said with a chuckle, nodding as she walked over to Kathy's room. She gently knocked on the door, waiting for a response. "Kathy, hun, are you alright?" She asked, gently opening the door. "Yes, just- I need a minute..."

“So, uh, do you do theatre, like your sister?” Ed asked Michael awkwardly, who was finishing up his plate. “Nah, I think it’s stupid. But I’m not allowed to say that because it’ll hurt her feelings-“

"Well, don't take too long, especially not with a guest over-" "I'll take as long as I need, thank you," Kathy mumbled, furrowing her brows as she pulled her special blanket over her head. Lauren chuckled softly and sighed, stepping out of the room and closing the door before heading back to the dining room. "She jus needs a minute, she gets overwhelmed easily."

“All good,” Ed said with a shrug, nodding. “Uh- this pasta’s really good. Lauren-“

"Thanks, I'm glad you like it~" Lauren replied with a smile, moving to sit back down.

“I do, it’s really good,” Ed said with a soft smile, finishing off his plate. “So, uh, why’d you choose med school?”

"Hm, well- I guess I've just always wanted to be a doctor," Lauren said with a chuckle, taking a sip of her water. "I've always loved taking care of people- the money's good too, and all, but I do it because it's kind of my way of giving back to the world, in a sense~"

“Dang, that’s deep,” Ed said with a chuckle, leaning back in his seat and crossing g his arms.

Lauren chuckled softly, nodding. "Yeah, I guess you're right~" She said, leaning back in her chair a little. "It's still about the money, though. Got bills to pay so I can keep these ones fed," she added, gesturing to Michael.

“Bye,” Ed said with a chuckle, heading out the door and grabbing his keys.
